Hi I have dermatillomania. I have had it since I was really young, which I didn't know about until some years ago. It's a pain and I REALLY want to get over it Am I getting over it? Eh. Some good days, some bad. I know it takes probably 4-6 weeks to break a habit.

I especially pick at my cuticles/skin around my nails. I haven't picked since April 2nd (or 4th something like that). If I pick out a hang nail, should I count that as picking if I am using cuticle trimmer, even if it breaks the skin a wee tiny bit?

I pick anywhere and what not. I can wear gloves more often, I do have a tangle toy which I should use more . I did order a small fidget toy from amazon. I hope it's something small that can fit in the palm of my hand and I can fidget with.

..but like I asked, if you're just managing a hang nail and you rip a bit at the skin should I count that as skin pick? :/ I know weird question.

I wouldn't count it. Hangnails need addressing so you are just taking care of business. (((Hugs)))

Hi, I think the fidget toy is a great idea. I also have the problem of tearing at my cuticles. I've done it since I was a young child, and I'm 54.

Hi

I don't have dermatillomania, but have trichotillomania. Fidget toys are great. When I'm on the go or just can't have my hands visibly occupied by an item, I fidget with my rings on my fingers to keep my hands busy. Also hand lotion makes it tougher to pick/pull at things, plus it keeps your hands soft

Nah I don't think clipping a specific hang nail counts
Thanks for this!
