Getting a further eval. next week but just wanted to post on here as well. I definitely had OCD as a child I would count to the number 5 repeatedly then I finally broke that habit and shortly there after counting to 3 became my new thing. I no longer do this anymore but now I smell my fingers probably 50-100 times a day (weird I know). For example ill wipe my forehead or touch my cheeks then sniff my fingers. I also have to have my shoes tied to the exact same tightness if not it drives me nuts. Due to this I typically just wear boots or tie my shoes really loose. I also have to sleep on the same pillow every night and sleep with another between my legs.

Hello tallen01: Well... I don't know. Personally I think there's probably a fine line between something being a weird habit versus OCD. As a child I bit my fingernails. When I grew into my late teens, I managed to break myself of that habit. Then I discovered... hair pulling! I've been a hair puller ever since. I have lots of other odd little quirks that come-&-go as well.

By the way, I sleep with a pillow between my legs too. I can only sleep on my side... mostly my right side. For many years I've had low back problems & I began sleeping with a pillow between my legs in an effort to try to keep them in some sort of "natural" alignment. (I think I read about this being a good idea somewhere.) Anyway, now, if I don't have my pillow between my legs at night it just doesn't feel right.

Hmmm...well, if you don't do the 'weird things' do you feel anxious? For example, if you consciously do not smell your fingers do you feel a rise in anxiety?

Prior to getting on the meds I would do it any time I got anxious or stressed. Since I have been on the meds I have been doing it less out of anxiousness and stress but I still do it. I dont know if that makes any sense.
The shoe thing still drives me nuts though.

Since you are uncomfortable with the 'weird habits' I think it is a good thing that you'll be getting a further evaluation soon. It sounds to me like you're stuck in some OC behavior.
