I have PTSD and OCD. The SSRIs have mostly given me increased anxiety making my OCD especially worse even though they do help with depression. I am on Lexapro now and cut the dose in half to decrease anxiety and it only helped a bit. I also have been on Lexapro for months and the anxiety from it has not gone away.

Has anyone tried anything besides the SSRIs for anxiety disorders? {The place I go to for mental health treatment doesn't prescribe Benzos any more to anyone so I can't get them anymore.} They used to help me.

It is cruel that many pdocs refuse to prescribe benzos. Benzos are the one med type that help with anxiety. Is it possible for you to find a different pdoc, one who prescribes benzos?
Thanks for this!

There are many new meds for anxiety. My docs do give benzos but I will consider something else wo the downsides.
Thanks for this!

I wish but I'd have to pay out of pocket probably for the visit and then the meds, too.

They give me propranolol, too. I take it but the anxiety is still there. Ugh.

I took Buspar for a while. It helps with anxiety, but is not a benzo. It might be worth asking your doctor about it. I found it works well combined with an anti-depressant. I took it and Lexapro together.

I also think it’s cruel if doctors refuse to prescribe benzos. There are some other alternatives out there that some doctors prescribe for severe anxiety. I’m allergic to the SSRIs grrrrr.
