I mean, it can be depicted as something that's funny and quirky, see Monk and As Good as It Gets.

We know that's not the case, it's something a lot more serious. OCD often keeps you from doing things the average way because of recurrent, intrusive thoughts. Pestering thoughts which come and never fully go away; 'Did I close the door?', 'Is the light off?', 'Do I have something on my back?', 'Why's everyone staring at me? Maybe there's something wrong.', 'Should push this guy in front of the car', etc.

In some cases, being fixated on certain things, i.e. obsessing, will get you to be better at that thing, but at the expense of your well being.
