I am thrilled that there is a thread here for trichotillomania. I pulled my hair out from the age of 11 until my daughter was born. So, about 15 years. I also am a picker of scabs. I understand that there is a name for that too. Dermatillomania. Most people don't understand what this is caused from. But, I do. I was molested from the age of 4 and again 11 by my sisters 1st and 3rd husband. As a child, we have 0 control. Except with regards to picking, pulling and cutting. Since my face doesn't break out anymore, can't pick that. Picking and pulling is better than anything! However, I have the scars on my face to prove. Luckily my hair all grew back. No, I didnt see a professional. I stopped pulling my hair, myself. I would literally have to grab my hand to stop it. Yes, it is a repetitive habit. We all have habits and this is OCD.
