OK. I don't know how big of a deal this is or even if it is a deal at all. I was replying to a post in the anxiety forum. Today I went back in to se if the original poster had additional comments ( i do this). Well, the persons wife (under the posters screen name) replied and said that her husband wasnt being honest in his post and that he had far worse issues that he wasnt being forthcoming about. She told me to email her for further details. Against my better judgment I emailed. i knew I shouldnt have and now I feel weird about it. Anyway, I'm feeling like she betrayed her husband by coming here under his name. I feel that she may have been snooping. I feel like I have contributed to this by emailing her and I feel terrible. At the same time, Im feeling bad for her because she is feeling anxious and afraid. I dont know. Does any of this make sense. I feel unsettled.

I don't have time to reply, by my quick initial response is that yes, she betrayed her husband by coming here and posting under his name! I assume it was done without his knowledge or approval. That is unacceptable of her, in my opinion. In support of you, I think you did at the time what you thought was right. Your heart is in the right place. You probably haven't contributed as much as you might think. It also could be that the person's wife could be looking for support herself, by way of doing what she did. Talk later! Hi Jen,

I sure can understand your feeling "unsettled". I had an internet pen-pal and would write her often. She was having marital problems but to make matters worse she had to be admitted to a psych hospital due to mental illness. Unbeknownst to me- here I am writing to her about her marriage-- then her HUSBAND, whom I don't even know- emails me back under her address. It was very unsettling!!

But you know, you were just being helpful.
I don't think it's right of someone to use another's name or address and especially answer something that wasn't even written TO them. Sorry this happened to you.

I came across that post too and my jaw dropped.

Well, I'd say to just extricate yourself and let them sort out this wee problem.

You're right. It's weird. However, my hubby is here...less than me, but here. He has his own name though, so it's different. Sorry this upset you.

Jeeze, that would make me feel out of sorts. You did what you thought was best. Don't give it a second thought. You're great.

Maybe I'm too suspicious, but we've had problems on this board as well as another (not a psych board but a tv show fan web site) with one person posing as more than one. It just struck me as odd that his "wife" would come in and expound on his problem, even going as far as to give out her private email address, when "he" is most assuredly going to come back to the boards and read what she wrote! Wouldn't this be distressing to "him?" After all, if "he" wanted anyone to know specifics, wouldn't "he" have offered them up on his own?

Just a thought.
