Ok, maybe I'm nuts for thinking this, but how cool would it be for PC members who live in close proximity to each other to start support groups where we could come together and talk about life issues? Many of us don't have family or friends or whatever and this would give people the opportunity to meet other members and make friends IRL that truely understand what it's like to walk a mile in our shoes. So is this a good idea or a stupid one? How many would participate?

Ry

I think it's a wonderful idea and you can count on me to participate! PC support group IRL

Ry? This isn't RL?? You have impacted my life as much, if not more, had I met you face to face! Some of us like to call "RL" - 3D. PC support group IRL

Oh fine you big goofy arse!!! PC support group IRL You know what I mean. I just thought it would be something cool to do like once a month or so. For those of us (like me) who have difficulties in social situations it could be very helpful. Hell, it could be helpful all around. Anyway, it was just a thought. BTW Tomi, you've more than impacted my life as well. I'd say you used a 20 HP jack hammer.

Ry

See guys, that's what I'm talking about. Jenn, there's someone else here that's in Utica which is the next town over. And you're actually about 1/2 hour from me Jenn. I live a decent bit north of Detroit.

I'm all about it, cuz you can NEVER have too many friends.

I'm all for an IRL meeting. Ry, that is a WONDERFUL idea.

Dolfin, you live near a Ren Faire? Do you ever go? I go to ours in Bristol every year. What fun to dress up in costume and yell "Arrrrr me hearties" and no one thinks you're nuts. PC support group IRL

Ahhhhh! PC support group IRL PC support group IRL

There have been a few times that I've suggested some of us getting together and I SWEAR! Not ONE response! Even told the story of when some of us from a chat room decided to get together near San Francisco. We had people from all over the US come! It was no different walking into that room than it was logging into the chat room. Everyone ran and hugged those that were coming in. It was so shocking that some already new who I was and no one had seen a pic of me! This was before we put on a tag with our screen name on it, too! PC support group IRL I'll never forget that "party." I've never felt so loved and accepted as I did that evening and in the following days when some of the people "shuttled" me from one town to the next where my daughter could pick me up. PC support group IRL (happy sigh)

I can give some suggestions for any gathering of this sort, if anyone really goes through with it.

Ry, be careful! These gals are just vying for you, you know! LOL PC support group IRL

Is anyone in California??? PC support group IRL

When I was deciding on my divorce and probably going through (just 1 of) the roughest times of my life.

I met someone online. Through a support chat. She and I shared so much and she was such a support for me.

She offered for me to come stay with her out in new mexico.

Mind you i'm in NJ. And also I was still getting over the fact that I couldn't really drive all that far away b/c I would get too nervous.

I decided I was gonna buy a ticket and fly out there...lol.

My family definately thought this was my final crack up.

I flew to St. Louis. Took a connecting flight. Onto New Mexico.

Stayed with her and her family for 12 days. It was pretty amazing and worked out great.

So imagine the possibilities. Heck if I'm in the right frame of mind I just might even fly out further west.

PC support group IRL ... lol

Just a though. Since we all seem to be so far away from each other (and other issues), how would it be if we had a virtual reunion using an instant messaging client, netmeeting, a 3D client or even a webcam script installed on this site?. We could perhaps do that for starters and we would get to see and hear the people we were talking to in "real life". Web cam scripts - many are free and easy to install. I have a web cam and mic myself. Anyone else have a webcam and/or mic?. Maybe we could all plan to do this once a week or once a month or something. Just an idea. What dio you people think?

Ummm... it's still "virtual." There's nothing like a real live hug, a real live smile, etc.

But maybe for some, it would be easier...

Tomi, people had better go through with it. I'd hate to get all these responses for nothing. Besides, the Detriot/Holly chapter already had 2 members. Meeting times and places TBA PC support group IRL I hope this works for some areas. I think it would be cool.

Sounds like a great idea to me. I seem to be a little out of the way from everybody, though. Is anyone else on this board from the Dover, New Hampshire area?
