Lmo and Wifi, your posts of extreme silliness helped save my mood. I appreciate the distraction that humor can bring us. Reading a particular now-locked and removed post brought about some not-so-nice feelings in me. I was finding it hard resisting the urges of violating community guidelines, but I did okay. Alright, so I helped to hijack a thread, but that's not too serious! Thank you, silliness

I've almost got tears in my eyes thinking about that post and other things related indirectly to it. We need the silliness a little more often around here, I think. But not too much--just enough to keep DadJohn on his toes?

We all know that "laughter is the best medicine". I loved the jokes. The first time I saw the approach....thought it was rather cute....however I didn't really appreciate why it was being done.....thinking about what if that was my post. I must admit I didn't understand what it was saying either but that really shouldn't be an excuse.

However when the strategy showed up again, I found it to be as obnoctious as bickering. Hoping that since it worked once it will work again, & again & again...When will this all stop?????????

To put it into perspective.....how would it be liked it if someone (or a couple of people) didn't like a post or didn't like the way it was going & decided to get rid of it using the same tactics just because they didn't like it.

IMHO, I see ALL of the things that are going on lately as being very CHILDISH , IMMATURE, & unacceptable actions that don't need to be added to this forums environment. It is time this whole forum environment grow up.

Cute has its place & maybe Doc John should start a joke forum where we all can go for our needed laughs. Everything has its time & place....thinking that we all should remember this.

Ladies that thread was an insult to the mentally retarded, it was removed because itwas against the guidelines, it was done in poor taste, those of us that found it that way did nothing wrong we saved alot of ppl from getting hurt.
eskielover, the person posting would not answer pm's IMO it was done as a put down, possibly out of boredom

Angie, LMo and I knew it was going to be removed. It was just a matter of time. We were actually trying to get it removed sooner. Sorry if we offended anyone.

The only thing I don't want to see is that the jokes or anything like the jokes, become a way of shutting down a post that isn't liked...that is up to the moderators & that is what they are for. It should not be in our hands to make it shut down but go through the proper methods to get it shut down via the moderators...

As I see it, everytime this tactic works, it reinforces this action..."it worked once today, it should have worked by now".

I really liked the jokes & enjoyed them more than the posts that they ended, had me laughing really hard......but I still find the action inappropriate in the fact that when something like this is started, it can end up being as bad as everything else that is going on here. What is there to stop it from happening everytime that a thread isn't liked....

I still say let the people in charge take care of these things....and we can let them know when something is going on that we don't like.

I would love to have a special forum just for jokes...gotta get doc interested. It would be better than hunting them out of a forum that has many other things in it....laughter is great for healing, relaxing, & just clearing the mind.....

With this, I end my soap box.

I don't really care, but aren't you contradicting yourself here? I'm not trying to continue your argument, but you just kind of went against your own point.

With all due respect, eskielover, you're assuming that's what we meant (to shut it down). Not that I feel like I need to defend myself, but to clarify, what I meant was "it worked once TO DIFFUSE A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE DIRECTION THIS THREAD HAS TAKEN".

Childish? Immature? Okay, sure. I can live with being called names. It's not going to ruin my day or anything like that.

And there is a special forum just for jokes. But that wasn't the point.

What makes more sense to me than restricting jokes to their own forum, might be to have a forum from which all jokes are prohibited just for those who can't take one.

Humor is medicine, slip ups happen. So what.

sqrl.

Therein lies one of the problems sqrl: one slip up is ONE.

More than ten posts to a thread is beyond slipping wouldn't you say?

We all slip and goof now and again. One post might have been a slip up. More than that and it appears to be conscious choice to continue behaviour that was knowingly not appropriate for this particular thread.

I'm all for fun and humour but not when the purpose has been stated and then some squirming goes on to restate precisely what the purpose of the behaviour was. Without consensus by the involved parties I just write it off as steam escaping in a poor manner.

When something works once then we're bound to try it again. Just look at young children and how they learn. Until they're taught that it isn't correct to behave in a certain way then they're bound to repeat their behaviours.

I fail to see how the behaviours presented here were helpful for anyone to learn better ways of communicating. For me it was reminiscent of watching bullies egg one another on. Thank you, silliness

I'll try to remember how you feel about humour next time you're posting sqrl so I can respond appropriately in a way that you find supportive.

Which is exactly why I replied to that original post the way I did--something like, "relax...breathe...ignore".
