I wasnt sure if this was the right section to post this in, so dont eat me if im wrong D:

When ever im chatting with some one on aim or w.e i always think they dont wanna talk, because most people now a days just say "lol" and "oh". I do it too, but it makes me feel like the person just doesnt want to talk to me anymore, so i just close the conversation.
Thanks for this!

I expect there are trust issues here. We are warned to not give out personal information and to beware of scams. Perhaps people are reticent because they are uneasy talking to people they do not know. It takes time to cultivate friends. Chit chat likely will not be that meaningful.

Maybe there are ways to ask so you will know.
You could ask "Is this a good time to talk?" "Are you busy?"
There are times someone will pop up on IM and just say "Hi". Nothing else. Waits for me to do the talking. Doesn't ask if I am already talking to someone (I am online, probably not just sitting waiting for someone else to wander by.. lol)

I respond directly as well. "Hi, I'm talking to someone else/busy/just heading off, but I hope we can chat soon!"

When I start getting nothing but 'lol' and 'haha' and 'yeah' in reply, I figure it's time to go. It isn't too interesting at that point.
Thanks for this!

But its not just random people, it's people who are good friends and have had meaningful talks with before.

I do that at times, i say lol way too much, but I don't have anything interesting to say.

Its like, i want to talk to you, and i hope im not bugging you, but i dont know what to talk about.

That's why I stopped talking to people online, I always felt like they didn't care what I was saying, or sometimes if it was a decent discussion I wondered if they were judging me or something.

Though it seems to me most people stopped using Aim recently. Maybe it's just people I know.
