My car died and I tried to get a rental...but I do not have a debit card as it causes me to overspend..I just, withdraw cash each day and when that runs out then I stop.......renting a car well they were going to let me pay cash but I needed a utility bill, as many of you know, my mother told disability I was unable to handle my own money making her the payee, which I then got my own payee service they get sent my utility bills,,I do not see them....so I had no utility bill to give them! Then they wanted the same credit card as the driver of the car, finally I realised my dad could pay with me paying him back and me signed on as 'one of the drivers..' I talked to the lady she did want a debit card from me also, but agreed to enter in my Dad's debit card number in that space...

I have a remtal car now, but very upsetting morning, one rental company seemed 'on to me' when I called back about simply being a driver on my Dad's rental..

Perhaps I could get a debit for emergency use only,,if I can just hold myself to that..........................

Do the rental companies require a minimum balance on the debit cards?

How long are you going to have the rental? They're awfully expensive so I wouldn't think you would have a problem too long? It is working for now isn't it? Are you working to get a new car soon?

However you found a way around it so maybe you can manage using your dads card again and just pay him back rather than get your own ? I found I ALWAYS over spent when I had one now I just use hubbys lol....

maybe if you get one for emergencies you could do something like freeze it in a plastic pitcher of water so it would be a real hassle to get to. you'd be motivated to chip away at all the ice if it were an emergency but probably not otherwise.
