I just feel like such a hypocrite. I will post about how hopeless I am feeling, then turn around and try to support someone else with some words of hope. Is it the thought of feeling like you are somewhat uniquely hopeless, everyone else can be helped, but you are the one hopeless case? I don't know how to feel about this. anyone else feel like a hypocrite??

IMHO, you are not a hypocrite, how can one be a hypocrite if your giving support, we can't see the answers to our problems so we come to each other for that support and help, so see dearheart , you are not a hypocrite

How can one be a hypocrite when one tries to help a fellow human being? How good do you feel when you give to another that is hurting? To be able to put a smile on someone's face, or comfort them during a difficult time is a very selfless act. I, for one, find I get more when I give of myself, than the person who is the recipient of my help. The returns are tremendous along with learning and understanding. Hope that all makes sense...lol. Take good care!!

I do know what you mean about thinking others may be helped by our words, but no one can help us. I think hypocracy is not the right word. I don't know what is tho.

There is something about depression and losing our connection to others. We don't really feel the love they offer. I think sometimes this is where the idea that depression is "selfish". But it's not so much that we are consumed with ourselves, it's that we can't FEEL the impact of other people. At least that is how it can be with me.

Additionally, for people who have a history of early abuse or neglect, they may struggle with attaching to others, regardless of their depressive state.

Anyhow, yeah...I think I know what you mean.

I definitely understand what you mean. When I see another hurting person, and I try to help them, I can see very clearly that they do have worth and that there is hope for them to heal and be happy. It isn't hard at all for me to see the growth that someone else has achieved and to envision more growth in their future. For me, though, it's like I think I'm the exception to the rule. I'm the only one in the universe who actually and truly is completely hopeless, completely worthless, and can never heal.

I am working on overcoming those feelings in therapy, but they sure are a doozy. anyone else feel like a hypocrite??

I also completely agree with the other thoughts shared here. Some very insightful people have responded to you.

I know you may FEEL like a hypocrite; but far from it. anyone else feel like a hypocrite??

Some of the most loving, supportive I have received thru my entire life has come from one who is hurting more than myself. anyone else feel like a hypocrite?? I do it myself, but the way I see it is that, the more emotionally "unbalanced" I am, but "in control" I'm still functionaling from my heart is when I give the best feedback b/c I'm also functioning on a "feeling" (emotional) level. It's like reflecting......... anyone else feel like a hypocrite?? anyone else feel like a hypocrite??

The best feedback you give to others, when you yourself are bleeding inside,it comes from all the positive things that you know that you SHOULD apply to yourself!!!! Trust what comes w/i..............those "hypocritical thoughts" you say may mean the world to the one you are sending them, too. Sometimes, when you see a post from "that person" & they're thanking you & saying how much better they feel; give yourself a pat on the back & then make should that you "Practice what you have just Preached" eh? anyone else feel like a hypocrite?? anyone else feel like a hypocrite??

w/((((((hugs))))))from another "hypocrite" anyone else feel like a hypocrite??DAYZEE

I did a post on this a few months back. I was judging myself for offering up advice to others when I could not apply that same advice to myself.

I think that it is easier for us to see someone else and relate to their problems and offer advice to them. The advice that seems to make the most sense. I beleive its harder for us to accurately assess ourselves because the view of ourselves is so warped. Sometimes we think that others are more worthy of help and that we are not worthy. I think its alot of different things. I hope I havent confused you. I think I kinda confused myself. LOL.

Bottom line, your an awesome person. Caring, loving, supportive. You deserve the best, just as everyone here does. Dont be so hard on yourself. Take care and much love.

I don't think you are alone in feeling this way. However, I don't believe it is hypocritical. Difficult for someone who has not experienced it to understand, maybe, but since I have been in the same boat so to speak, I will try to help you row.

It is just plain easier to try to objectively help others with their needs. I doubt I'm alone in feeling as though I'm beyond, unworthy, or otherwise unsuitable for the kind of help I can offer to others here, at least at some time or other. That's our own defeatism talking to us, I think. It doesn't make you a hypocrite; it just places you in the same boat as a lot of us who have a difficult time believing (at least sometimes) that we are going to feel any better any time soon.

The best I can suggest is that you try to remind yourself these nuggets of wisdom can apply to you too. It's not easy to convince youself of that, but it helps to try, I think.

Besides, sometimes, you just need to hear some encouragement from someone else, and there's nothing wrong with that. So post away, don't sweat it.

Thanks everyone! I hope that it didn't sound like my support of others is in any way false. It is true, I do believe in the worth of everyone besides me. And, it appears that we all feel like "the only one". I guess we aren't the only ones when it comes to that feeling. I appreciate all of your support, even though I tend to disbelieve anything positive about myself. I guess I know something I need to work on! HUGS!
