Sigh. This is twice in as many months. Glad I had it cold when it happened. I try calling the outage number and I get University of TULSA OK! I'm in FL folks! sigh So I used some of my battery power to log on to the power company site to report and review their progress on this outage... and it wouldn't take my information I don't have my account number handy... etc! How frustrating!

I do have ice packs I can sneak out of the freezer... and if I don't use the portable battery source to be here or to play games... I can run a fan for 2 hours.. but I don't wish to do that in case this is a long outage and I need it for tonight.

Life, ain't it grand?

Geez...I feel for you Sky. I'm in FL too and it is HOT!
May cool breezes (here, I'll help Power's off again...) head your way and rustle your palms.

Thanks y'all... whew! That was another 4 hours of stress I guess I could have done without... usually I use loud tv and lots of lights to help me get through thunderstorms. I even have the accordian hurricane shutters closed on my bedroom windows so I can't get the full effect of the lightening... without electric I was suffering from near full effect of the constant storming going through today, tonight.

It's kind of ok now... still constant rumbling and lightening but I have electric so I'm trying to "ignore" it. One "good" thing I found out is that I can open the garage door without power. I mean, I know how to use the motor detachment but hadn't done so. I have always been concerned that I wouldn't be strong enough to pop the door up "manually." It was a breeze! (Must've been those that the members here sent?) It rolled up like silicone. I had a little trouble resetting the motor mechanism once the power came back on, but it's all set. And now I know, in event of emergency I can go out that garage door.

sigh. Thanks again for the wishes of good.

You sure you don't want to move to California? It's 6:45 pm and it's 68 degrees with a mild breeze. The high was supposed to be 70. I'm not sure if it made it or not, but...

It climbed to 80 degrees inside the house... but was dry... outside it was like 94F degrees and um quite wet!

Move to CA where I can "feel the earth - move - under my feet???"

A GOODYEAR blimp crashed in a nearby neighborhood... that's what caused the power outage this time. I doubt that either incident (lightening hitting a main transformer, blimp crashing) are likely to happen again soon... so maybe the power will stay on the rest of the summer????

yeah it's pretty rare. The cost? 5 mil. The pilot has been around for years. There were terrible storms about and he wasn't able to "land" the thing at the airport. (They don't actually land, you know? They tie up to pillars or such sticking up...and if there's a lot of wind, they can't even attempt it or they might become impaled (the airship, that it.)

Actually I was thinking that in addition to causing the power outage, everyone should be able to be reimbursed for the batteries they use up while the power's off! I mean, it's the insurance company that pays... and the public that suffers. The guy's been a pilot for eons, in this case, the t storms were forecast and moved in from the west. It's not like we have mountains that you can't see the storm coming... pilot error in my book... even if he did have trouble with the engines. (Maybe ran out of petro because of poor planning?) Either he was just tooling around (pilot error) or up there for Goodyear, etc... (company should pay.)

See what happens to me when I have such intrusions in my life? This is after so many hours without electricity!

Is the 5 mil just the cost of the blimb or is that the amount of damage total that was done?

Just the cost of the blimp. If you add the cost of the power company employees, the repairs to the system, and the damage to the crash site, plus the other... gee I can't imagine... but like I said, not all the costs are covered by insurance. Like my batteries for my fan and tv/radio. Or the stress this caused... etc.

But at least no one was hurt, right?

We're remodeling a 65 year old house in an old part of Dallas and when we first moved in, everytime it rained the lights when out for 4-5 hours. We complained and complained but nothing ever happened. When we talked to the other neighbors they really didn't seem to want to do anything about it. They were elderly and seemed to have become content with the lights just going out from time to time.

After 9-10 months, entire blocks of neighborhoods started going out around us everytime too, so they were forced to come in and fix the problem. Man was it frustrating.

Oh, I brought this up to tell you your right about the other costs that really incur. We lost a couple of almost full refrigerators of food during that time. That was expensive. One of the outages lasted almost 3 days.

You know? I just listened more to one of the newscasts about that accident... and it really wasn't that close to me to have normally caused power problems. Maybe they shut a bigger area off while they figured the whole thing out?

Looked like you were getting some pretty bad storms too. Batten down the hatches cuz it's hot town, summer in the city...
