i'm currently being treated for OCD, yet my T says she thinks there might something more to me than that. she suggested that i should have a mental health assessment by a doctor. what do they do in it?

Hi, darlin'! =]

Just to let you know, that I understand OCD, I have it too. You aren't alone. I haven't had an MHA (that I know of), sorry, hun. But I do understand OCD and appreciate it, since I have it. =]

I just wanted you to know, that you aren't alone. =]

not sure how assessments are done in england but as for when they gave me mine, it was a relatively lengthy interview of questions and the t does their best to make you feel comfortable with opening up to talking about what's going on. best thing to do is just be yourself and if anything comes up that's hard to talk about just let them know it's some tough issues or try to answer as best you can. things will be okay, don't fear, they're out to help you. good luck with everything, keep me posted

PoetKenshin is right, mha's are all conversational. They'll mostly ask questions about your symptoms & family history. It shouldn't involve any medical tests.

Depending upon the doctor (usually a psychiatrist) they might not even ask that many questions directly, but give you the MMPI survey to take. That might take a few hours, depending upon how well you read, and how well you are functioning.
