Ringing in the ears is called tinnitus and can be caused by many different things...most are minor and the ringing resolves itself, but some are serious and need medical attention/treatment. The best course of action is to see you GP. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/tinnitus/DS00365

I have Tinnitus. Pain in the neck, well actually ears. Sometimes it's so loud, it hurts. Hpe yours fades out eventually. They have a noise box which produces low-grade white noise like ocean waves or something like that so that the ears rgister that instead of the ringing. If it really bugs you, you might want to look into trying one out. Huggs

My ears have been ringing for as long as I can remember... as while it can be serious at times most of the ringing is more annoying than harmful.

Argh!!!!

I can't stand tinnitis!! I get it in both my ears, but mainly my left one. I'd try a noise box, but my tinnitis is not actually a ringing. It actually sounds like high pitched white noise!! Actually, it sounds more like the hiss of air being let out of a tire.

But others are right, it can be a medical thing related to your actual hearing. My T's think that mine might be a sort of somatic thing, but I'm not sure because I have a history of many ear infections as a child.

My ringing comes and goes, and sometimes it is a wooshing white noise. I work near jet engine test cells, but I wear earplugs and ear muffs. Thank you for writing me. I really do appreciate it. I am sorry you all have ringing, because it is nerve racking. I had a buzz in my ear once, it sounded like a fly was sitting on my ear. thanks again Saidee

I feel for ya! I have had the constant ringing in my ears for years.. (it seems to get worse and worse each year!).. and it drives me NUTS!! I finally saw an ENT specialist last year but they said they couldn't find anything wrong and said it was my TMJ problems causing it. (I get the high pitched ringing noises several times a day and although they only last about 10-20 seconds, they are LOUD, I tell ya! I always look at my friends if they're with me when it happens and I'm like 'how can you not hear that ringing!' I hope yours goes away soon! Have you been checked for tmj problems, cause I know that can be one of the causes for ringing in the ears or other ear problems such as ear aches or intense pressure.

Hope you are able to find some relief soon!

It's interesting how the type of ringing is different for each person.. the only way I can describe mine is the sound of when a certain t.v channel goes off the air after a certain hour and all you hear is the loud 'beeeeeeeeeeeeep' noise when they channel says 'off the air'. I wish there was a way to stop it from happening.. I do notice that it tends to happen more when there's no other noise around me.. like when i'm trying to fall asleep at night or on the computer with no music or background sounds.

I had tinnitus when I was toxic on aspirin. I think that can happen with any salicylate such as Pepto Bismol.
