On a bus ride, people were talking about how they got a disability check because of pain. Then I started talking about how I used to get disability but not anymore.... anyway one guy said "Let me guess, psychiatric?"

I mean seriously, I just met these people and I'm on meds. I've had this happen to me before too, where people said they thought I had a mental disorder before I said anything.

I'm upset about this, how can people tell?

Let me guess. He was secretly worried about his own mental health. If he could get someone's goat, he could reassure himself that he was stabler than them. He'd already checked out everyone else there. You looked to him as if your goat might be gettable, so he went for it.

In other words, he was demonstrating his symptom but you thought it might have something to do with you.

The guy simply may have realized it is easier to demonstrate physical pain than mental pain.
Thanks for this!

Probably because it's that it's almost always the answer. SSDI is one of those things people joke about. If you're not in a wheel chair or have some obvious physical problem then people are almost always on it for something mental. I wouldn't take it personal.
Thanks for this!

(((Birdcrazy))) Re read what Stanger2 and TheByzantine wrote. I think the combination of the two is the complete answer to your question. Those people dont know your medical history. Youre safe. Hugs...
