I was led to believe there were places to CHAT in this site.

There is a chat. You may have received a "Welcome" e-mail by now, explaining what's required for access to it. If not, here's _sabby_, one of our administrators, spelling it out in some detail: Rules and Administration > Access for New Members.

There is a very active chat however you have to have a certain amount of post (I think 5) before you can enter chat ! Its to stop spammers and the like coming into chat and ruining it for everyone....
