Hi everyone
I know that with all of the things that are happening in this world...why do I choose to be picky right now? Hard to say but it is in my nature. I am going to ask if we can all be more careful with our spelling on here....I don't mean to offend anyone and I truly hope I am not but the spelling errors lately are making it very difficult for me to read some of the posts. I truly hope I am not hurting anyone's feelings but it is a pet peeve of mine and I am only asking for us all to be a tiny bit more careful If anyone is having trouble - copy and paste your post on a word document and use the spell check...just takes a few more seconds and it makes it so much easier to read. Thank you everyone for your understanding. We all try I am sure, even I do mispell, but people have told me this isn't a "spelling bee" here and then they told me to relax when I was so uptight if my typing was off or my spelling, the important thing is to capture the thought before it slips away.

I had a week or two that spelling mistakes kept slipping by me without getting caught. I have been really self conscious about it because I really do know how to write better than that. Sorry. I think it's a sign of stress.

Oh gosh...I misspell at times too......I am by no means perfect it was just that there have been some posts that I found reading them was so difficult as there were so many words misspelled...that is all...nothing major though ok?

I'm with you, Heather! In fact, I was thinking of posting a Pet Peeve thread. LOL
Smack me later if you want, but I have one with your spelling. <font color=green>You know I love you, don't you??</font color=green> The word is "noone." It's two words, Hun. "No one." <font color=red>YIKES!!! Don't hit me too hard!!!!</font color=red> (Hiding under the desk! ) Ok... now tell me that's the way they spell in in Nova Scotia! hehehe <font color=blue>This above all: To thine own self be true. --Shakespeare</font color=blue> __________________ Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. |

LOL where did I write that? If it is on msn that is allowed though right? finger farts are allowed there ...or maybe it is a Nova Scotian spelling ...like lunch is at noone....kinda like the US version of roof (ruf)
I do like your idea of a pet peeve column though...great idea. Funny how "noone" thought of it yet teehee Of course I love ya.....give Jerry the smack instead Heather "The Pessimist complains about the wind, the Optimist expects it to change and the REALIST adjusts his sails." ~~~author unknown __________________ Hugs Heather The secret of abundance is to stop focusing on what you do not have, and shift your consciousness to an appreciation for all that you are and all that you do have. ~~Dr. Wayne Dyer |

Can I insert a caution here? Some of us are perfectionists, which doesn't mean that we never make mistakes - just that we are hard on ourselves about it when we do. This can get us into trouble. I was given the perfectionism lecture just last week by my therapist because I wasn't satisfied with my test scores in my classes. I was okay with the one that was 97%, but not the one that was 86%. Perfectionism contributes to depression. I think he said something along the lines of, "You'll make yourself crazy if you keep it up."
Then the other night I was up late working right up to the deadline (midnight) to get my homework perfect. It gets turned in over the internet, and I opened up my web browser and the first thing I saw was this quote: <font color=purple>"Perfectionism holds us back or it makes us go overboard. We are either paralyzed by not having enough time to do it right or we take all the time in the world to do it perfectly while letting everything else go by the wayside." - FlyLady </font color=purple> Knowing that it is a problem doesn't mean that we know how to stop though. No offense, Heather, please, but I just had to say something. <font color=purple>"The real problem of mental life is not why some people become insane, but rather why most avoid insanity." -Erich Fromm</font color=purple> __________________ “We should always pray for help, but we should always listen for inspiration and impression to proceed in ways different from those we may have thought of.” – John H. No offense taken at all. It is only with some posts that I have trouble reading because of the numerous errors....I would really hate to miss a point someone is making if there is too much focus on the typos....that is all. Gosh I hope I didn't open up a can of worms here Heather "The Pessimist complains about the wind, the Optimist expects it to change and the REALIST adjusts his sails." ~~~author unknown __________________ Hugs Heather The secret of abundance is to stop focusing on what you do not have, and shift your consciousness to an appreciation for all that you are and all that you do have. ~~Dr. Wayne Dyer |

Even Mary Poppins was only practically perfect in every way. She never said she actually was.

Thank-you for understanding. Spelling errors can bug me too, actually, especially when they are mine. But if I ran every post through a word processor and spell checked it, I'd never get around to posting anything. I can just imagine what would happen if we opened a pet peeves thread. Some of them would be funny and some would be informative, but sooner or later someone would get their feelings hurt. We're all good as far as I'm concerned. I just needed to mention my concern. Pet peeve threads can fuel flaming and it is hard enough as it is keeping peace here these days. I also know no one here would want to hear what my pet peeves are.ha!ha! So I think one should go to some of the other sites out there that have such forums, I am sure some fun and flaming is abundant there, I will not say the names of some of those sites in order not to bring offense to anyone.
Just my 2 cents, this site wasn't originally created for the purpose as mentioned above. Thanks, DE Oh I'm sorry if I "mispelled" anything, lol!! In giving advice seek to help, not please your friend SOLON __________________ |

I can proudly lay claim that anyone can throw any word at me they want to, and I can spell it - i + t = it. See?
((((((((((Heather)))))))))) Sorry sweetie, Iknow I possibly could have found something more constructive to say (or not), but it has been a long week for me (sighsss) and I just couldn't resist a little stab at humor. Yopu know I loves ya :-) Your friend Sam Anyone can say I love you, but actions speak louder than words. __________________ "You'll never know what you're capable of if you don't try." |

At the risk of getting myself in trouble again, I understand completely what Heather is talking about. I mean... it's not just misspellings. It's misspelling combined with typos. That gets pretty bad!
Not absolutely certain that it is my perfectionism but I'm thinking it's not. It's a matter of self-pride... how you portray yourself to the public. Kinda like "pride of ownderhip"? Be that as it may... you either have it or you don't, you either care or you don't. It's a personal choice, I suppose. Maybe because I am a writer and Heather is a professional, it bothers us. Yes, she and I have the personal choice to not read those posts. But if I know Heather, she'll feel bad if she doesn't post an answer, eh, Heather? I don't think either one of us is expecting perfection. I don't spell check my posts anymore, but I do proofread them. That means that misspellings get by and a bunch of other stuff, too. Ok... so if anyone gets offended at what I just said, come after me and not Heather, ok??? I shouldn't have spoken for her but I understand what she's saying. A "Pet Peeve" thread?? Nah... At least, not me... not now, anyway. Me shicken!! hehehe <font color=blue>This above all: To thine own self be true. --Shakespeare</font color=blue> __________________ Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. |

It is alot easier to read something if the spelling is correct and the grammer is proper. That's not always so easy. I try my best but I make mistakes. Everyone does.
I think alot of errors can be due to mood. Yah, sometimes when you're down you don't really care. Maybe it's about all you can do to get what your feeling out. It can be really hard to type thru tears, anger, frustration and hurt. Maybe your in a hurry but want to get a quick reply out just so someone knows you care or that they aren't alone. Better to say something than nothing at all. We do also have to remember that there are people who have problems with spelling and grammar and it's not always that they don't care or try. Maybe it's the best they can do and that's good enough. I make tons of typing errors but always try to clean it up before I send it out. I personally am not bothered by someone's bad spelling or grammar. It's what they are trying to say that matters most to me and how they feel. That's just my 2. Heidu The highest reward for a person's toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it. John Ruskin __________________ There is a time in life when you stop existing and start living. I'm not offended, September. I don't think I am a particularly bad speller, but I try to be tolerant of people who do have difficulty with spelling. Some things do p*ss me off that other people just ignore, or join in with, though. I could start a new thread entitled "Fuzzy's peeves" ...
I do read through my posts, but I don't spell check them. Maybe I had better start doing so __________________ |

Tomi,
Maybe I shouldn't have said anything. I didn't intend for it to be directed specifically at any one person, and least of all did I mean to go after anyone. We're all entitled to our opinions, right? I'm not offended and I hope that neither you nor anybody else is either. I see your point - if someone takes no pride in their writing and is just sloppy about it, that can make it hard to read. But we don't know what everybody's ability level is, and I wouldn't want anyone to feel bad if their writing skills don't equal someone else's, or if they just make a mistake or typo, as we all do. I hope that nobody is in trouble. I would like to echo the concern that no one should feel that they can't or shouldn't post because they may not get the spelling right or some such... We had a good friend on the other board who had difficulty with spelling, and yet that person made a huge contribution to the board, and was/is a treasure... Just my thots...
