I don't agree with his premise that self-interest is equivalent to self-centeredness and greed. It's similar to the mistake I believe some people make in equating assertive with aggressive.

being social creatures, immersed in interdependence, the social group's mental health and the individual's social values cannot be seperated. "we have the government we deserve", is an example of how the individual values play out in the greater sphere. Ghandi and others, showed how the individual can act to correct this greater sphere. let us then, strive to be the best individual one can be, in the best society we can build.
