hi
I do not know if this is the right place to write this. I do not even know if its appropriate to write what I am going to say. If not, I apologize in advance. I am looking for emotional support. I live with very high levels of anxiety. Money issues can send me reeling. I know its a huge trigger for many people, especially in this economy. But for me, it is one of the things that trigger through the roof anxiety and panic. Last week the brake warning light went on in my car. I called the honest place that services the car. He said that because of the age of the car, that its possible it could be the pads and rotors. The place I bring my car is expensive. But its also the place that will diagnose and fix it right the first time. So people bring their cars to them. They know it will be done right. He said if its the rotors and pads it would cost about $900.00. He said that because they are so busy with winter tire changeover they will not be able to look at the car for a week. Today I had company for dinner. I looked up and saw a round water stain on my diningroom ceiling. my friend and I traced it to the shower. So now I am facing having to get a plummer to cut a hole in my ceiling and find out whats going on and fixing it. It was not leaking fast when we turned on the shower to confirm. But still, its happening. And the only way to access the pipe would be to cut the ceiling. I went into terror. I cannot take a shower. And I noticed it on a friday evening. So I will have to wait until moday until I can even call a plummer about it. Two things in one week that will cost many hundreds of dollars, at best, to have fixed. AND it is likely that it will be snowing the day I have to bring my car in to be repaired. I will have to drive it there and drive a rental car home and back again the next day, even if the roads are slippery. So I am asking for some emotional support. I am sort of in terror. And i live alone with no support people. Thanks. ![]() |

Sounds like the seal in your drain is unsealing. I had that happen in the house I bought 3 years ago. I kept finding a puddle of water in my basement. Thought it was the snow & ice coming in. In the spring, I was in the back door area next to my kitchen & found the wall paper damp...looked up & there was all this black mold on the ceiling. Turned out that the seal on my shower drain my my master bath had completely come unsealed.....water was just pouring out of the pipe instead of going down the drain. Needless to say, insurance didn't pay for the damage & I still have the hole in my ceiling.
The hose going to my toilet in my master bath sprang a leak this week. Water dripping down into my downstairs bathroom & the water spots on the ceiling there too. Ugh. I can understand your frustration. I understand the living alone with no one to help with the problems.....I'm in the same position.....but I have sure learned how to do a lot of things myself because I don't have money to hire to have anything done. Glad you have some money to take care of the problems, but know how hard it is to spend it on those kind of things. Just letting you know you aren't alone. Interesting thing however, I am so much better off after leaving my husband. Wouldn't trade living alone for ever going back to living with anyone. It would just be nice to have some money for emergencies that come up as it seems there is never a time when there isn't something that seems to HIT me when I am in the worst position. I also have a problem with my truck....a noise in the rear end that no one can seem to find......grrrrr. Not about to wait until after the extended warranty is up to find it though, so I am being very insistent about taking it back until they can tell me what's causing the horrible noise...... Winter is tough. We don't get much snow here, but have really been having the cold weather & I don't go out in the cold.....so I can sure understand your feelings on having to take your auto into have it fixed. Wishing you the best.....& letting you know you aren't alone in the frustrations. ![]() ![]()

Thank TheByzintine, Eskielover,Skully and Splitimage for the words of support. I was very worried about starting a thread asking for help. I dont really start threads. So I am more than grateful for your words of support.
Eskielover, I am sorry you are experiencing plumbing problems right now. And that you still have the hole in your ceiling from the shower drain. For me, I am on a fixed income which is absurdly low. I do have the money now to pay for it. Just will leave me that much less time to stay afloat financially. And the terror and panic it brings up.... Glad you are being persistant about your truck. Have you asked them to check for a "bulletin" aka bullet on the specific model of your truck? It would let you and them know if this problem has occured in other same model trucks. And if so, what it is exactly, and how to fix it. They have done this for me at the car dealer where I bought my car 10 years ago. Sometimes, with success. Maybe you can even search for a bulletin. Or find people online who have the same truck and might have some ideas. Maybe these ideas are off base. Maybe not. I am wishing us all enough money to ease our minds <3 |

$900.00 for rotors and pads?? Have you checked the cost to do them your self as in parts costs?I am not assuming you can do it your self ...but I wonder the portion of cost which is parts and which is labor.....Also the light can be reset once the pads have been changed out. Then see if the light comes back on.Did he actually check the wear on the brake pads and the rotors?......Because ...if it is not the rotors...brake pads are inexpensive comparatively. If you really do trust this guy/business to not cheat you via over dianosing...ask what it'd cost to inspect the cause visually and show you the defecit to yours compared to what they ought to look like.I personally would be standing there as they came off to view it my self. After all 900.00$ is alot of money.I know someone I can ask about helping you decide how to know if you really require all that cost/work.And to see what options there are as in ....remanufactured perts.I am only assuming that's a possibility. With some parts ...you actually can do that.I nearly doubt that with a braking system. But let me ask about it and see if you have alternatives.I will post tomorrow .Oh my ...then i saw the plummer issue.((((Sunset))))....Tell my when you find out the cause ...I feel awful in this point in december u are going thru this frightening threat of cost.Wolf

I just wanted to offer my support - I have had to deal with building leaks, car problems and anxiety and none of them are any fun. I hope you will be surprised and that the repair costs come in lower than you expect.

Thank you Wolfie !!!! The people I use for my car have a reputation for being the most trustworthy and honest. I have brought my cars to them for 20 years. Yes, their labor costs are high. But in my area they are the ones people go to for my kind of car. Because we know we will always be treated well and will never be led astray. I admire the zeal and tenacity you have in dealing with problem solving with cars.
Thank you Thimble for your words. I really appreciate it. Last edited by sunsetsunrise; Dec 12, 2010 at 04:55 PM. |

Sorry to hear about all the troubles you are going through. That is a lot of stress all at once. I know the waiting can be really tough, so it sucks that all this happened on a day when you can't do anything about it. I hope that they turn out to be quick, cheap fixes.

Oh dear, I'm sorry I'm late with this-- I just now saw this sunset/rise.
![]() Im so sorry you are going through such anxiety for yourself. ![]() I don't have anxiety for the same things as you-- but-- I sure know what an anxiety overload feels like ![]() ![]() remember to be kind and caring to yourself-- when you can, be sure to give yourself a reward-- I find that can reduce the anxiety sometimes. I don't mean a monetary reward--I mean a "me time" reward. doing something you find relaxing-- taking a walk, watching a favorite movie you own, spending bonding time with a pet or if you don't have a pet-- going to the pet store and holding a kitty, puppy or bunny rabbit, petting them and feeling their softness and warmth. ..... these are just a few suggestions... I hope you can find a way to reduce that anxiety some and don't forget-- we are here for you too. ![]() ![]() ![]() thinking of you and wishing you some inner peace. ![]() fins

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I know EXACTLY where you're coming from. And it's NOT ancient history. You've elicited some excellent advice in this thread. Follow at least some of it. Having now been in the identical fix you are in for about three years (including the high anxiety), I can tell you that "this too shall pass." You'll get your brakes and leak taken care of and be able to look back on this and shrug. Let's hope we ALL get out of this economic mess and rejoin prosperous America as soon as possible. Take care! ![]()

Thank you Daytimedreamer <3 and Purple fins<3 Ygrec23<3 furry wolfie again <3 and Jen <3. I so appreciate your words. And feel much much less alone in this.
Today I called the plummer. They are booked solid. I got an apt for thursday. The woman wasnt as convinced as I that this could not be fixed from the shower end of it. But my contractor who charges 25 an hour is willing to repair the ceiling if need be. The guy at the car place misunderstood me and thought I was going to look elsewhere to get my car fixed sooner. So I do not have a Wednesday apt. He would have fit me in on Wednesday somehow. But I opted for friday which might bring a bit less snow that I would have to worry about driving in. There is snow every day here. Just some days less than others. Friday was also better for the auto place. So he was pleased with the suggestion. I so appreciate everyones words of wisdom and support. I am very grateful to each of you wonderful souls. Truely. thank you |
