Hi folks,

I could use your help. I have been made an admin on a much smaller site. I have forum responsibility, particularly to generate some activity. PC forum is amazingly active. What makes you keep coming back and what would make you come in the first place? They might be impossible questions. Your thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,
Clive

I come to hope and pray and hope that someone will somewhere say something to me that will make sense out of this thing I call my life and give me reason to keep going.
Thanks for this!

I came here because I was undergoing integration of my alters and I. (diagnosed DID) I thought maybe there would be others like me here. But at the time I joined there was no one undergoing integration.

I am fully integrated now, I come here primarily to support others and share my experiences helping to pave the way for those who are traveling the road of which I have already past, giving a helping hand when and where I can.

I come on here for company when I need it, as I know there's someone here 24/7.
I come here to share and learn. I like the diversity, from various cultures, to people from different mental health back-grounds.
I appreciate the openness and how genuine the people here are.

The wealth of information and the fact that the site has moderators. No trolls or flamers. People with common interests who genuinely want to support and be supported. That's why I come here.

Support from people who have "been there" and so, know what it is like from their own personal experiences -- not just reading about it in a book. And out of that come some pretty psychologically-brilliant people.

I am attracted to the structure of the site and chat system. The multitude of personalities, the many forums, the administrative set up,the mods involvement, the links, the ability to assist, the peer led chats, the choice of chat room type as well as ability to make ones own room.I love the way there are people here from various countries/walks of life, one may support,be supported, and learn.Overall Idk if there are better sites. Are there? Or like, are there comparably structured sites?I haven't a clue. Also the volume of different people w/in the site makes things interesting.
Thanks for this!

Similar reasons as above: it includes those who have been there, from all walks of life and from all over the world with many experiences, who understand, are supportive, knowing, and respectful; it's educational, structured, and well moderated, which I can say is not the case in many other sites. It also includes mental health forums as well as special interests and fun forums, all inclusive. So it is helpful, engaging, and entertaining. I appreciate the privacy and individualized settings with messaging functions. It is easy to navigate and there is help for support in real time, not days later.

PC has ben a godsend and why I keep coming back.
Thanks for this!

Hi ((((((Clive)))))) Good luck with your new site!!

This is my own personal list of preferences when visiting an online support forum:

1) It's active. I don't like forums where there are only a few posts per day. I spend a lot of time online and I like to see a lot of activity on the forums I go to!!!

2) There are some people who I really like

3) There are a lot of games and light-hearted threads

4) You can post pictures and links

5) It's informative (current news articles about different aspects of mental health/illness etc)

6) The moderators are effective but discreet. I've been on forums where every last thing was moderated. I get really irritated by excessive use of "forum police". I think the moderating here is some of the best anywhere!

7) There isn't too much tension amongst members

8) Hot topics such as religion and politics are discouraged

In the moments before I'd first posted on PC, I had been on the phone with a crisis hotline. The man with whom I spoke was competent and polite, but ultimately dismissive of my concerns. I came here while in the stranglehold of personal and family crisis, one with which I am still dealing. My family was and is as taxed as I, and my friends, though well-intentioned, have not been all that helpful during this time. I came here hoping to connect with just one other human who might be able to offer me some empathy and understanding. I received a windfall of true compassion and support, from lovely, generous people who continue to offer me their kindness.

I keep coming here for those reasons, and many of those enumerated by other posters in this thread. I am grateful for the convergence of perspective, life experience, intelligence, humor, grace, wisdom, and the huge variety of individuals whose contributions make this place a haven. My life is truly a shambles at present; if it weren't for PC, I'd have nowhere to go. The people here are helping me survive, even if I don't want to at times.

I thank them all.
Thanks for this!

I've been extremely impressed by the other members - compassionate, insightful, highly intelligent, articulate. I'm having a very hard time emotionally, and feel isolated a lot. As others have said, there's always someone here to interact with, gain perspective from. And the variety of topics is amazing.
Thanks for this!

I sometimes come here when I am scared or feel lost and a place where my flaws aren't highlighted.. I can be "me"... the good, the bad, and the ugly...But most of all, there are a lot of "wonderful folks" here...

I come here for many reasons .....

For friendship ! To meet people to talk to people to have fun to go into chat for lively debates and to share problems or funny things that have happened to me, for support to take and give.

So many more things that I get from here but I have a bad memory so could not name then all .

But most of all for company. This is my social life and I am not ashamed to admit it as it really suits me, I cant cope with friends in real life as they expect too much from me they expect me to talk to them when they need it where with here if I cant talk then I dont go into chat...

There are so many posters on this thread who have already expressed in their own posts why I too am here that I'm at a loss to express anything different or more than what they have said. As those others have stated, I've been on other sites that were and are far, far below the standard set by PC in terms of honest, sincere participation, as well as really humanitarian administration of the necessary rules for such a site. You simply cannot do any worse than imitate what DocJohn, his people, and PC members have done here. If you create a similar atmosphere of real, live, effective and humane mutual support you will have to beat people off with a stick. As the saying goes, if you build it, they will come. And that applies as well to websites for mentally injured people as to ballparks. Take care!

I come pc because there are some people who come here and are very kind hearted. The most important thing i look for in an admin is how much their heart participates in decision making. For me, this one factor plays a significant role in how safe I feel participating in the forum of any given website. I hope this helps.

Ummmm. No. What I really had meant to say was that you couldn't do any BETTER than imitate, etc., etc. etc.

Sorry.
