Are you a post-a-holic?

_ Do you have uncontrolled cravings to post a message (create a new thread topic or reply to another person's thread)?

_ Do you have obsessive thoughts about posting (brainstorm about creating new thread topics while not online, new topics come to you as you dream while sleeping, stare at the forum listings until you think of a new post)?

_ Do you focus all your energy online posting and monitoring posts (constantly checking the status of a post, checking number of replies, checking who's online to see if they might read your post soon, trying to think of new thread topics, posting so many messages you forget which topics you've created or replied to, worried someone will reply before you do to a thread, become so exhausted from posting, lose track of time)?

_ Do you neglect food or bathroom breaks or other hygiene because you are posting messages?

_ Do your eyes, neck, lower back, wrists, fingers, head, or knees hurt from being online posting messages?

_ Does your mood depend on the quality of posting you are having for that day (feel anxious, heart races, feel depressed, happy, or worthy)?

_ Not listen to family members talking to you because they're messages aren't being read in thread/post format?

------------------------

I'm sure if you answered yes to any of these questions above could suggest you are a postaholic. (note: I don't think all pollaholics are internet addicts. So I wanted to try to define what a postaholic is.)

I can be a postaholic but only when I need help. I go through periods in which I feel down and need to post. Then there are times when I wont post at all. Like Estee, I have OCD so that may come into play with my posting.

I used to be a postaholic. My mood depended on the quality of messages I gave and receive. I took a sense of responsibility to always reply to threads in certain forums and to people who supported me, to pm new members.

For a time, posting and participating served a crucial, life-saving function in my life. Posting was not dysfunctional for me at that point.

After a time -- quite a long time, in fact -- it didn't. It was hard to stop, as overcoming an addiction always is, with false starts and returns. Eventually, I stopped coming here and going elsewhere for my strokes. Those places are less busy than PC, so I was weaned from dependency whilst developing other internet interests.

After about 6 months of cold turkey, I feel okay if I come here, but I don't want it to go back to how it used to be for me.

This is not intended as a commentary on how any other person should structure or not structure his or her relationship with PC or any other online posting or activity. It is merely a description of how it worked for me.

Hmmm I am worried that those who are already afraid of posting "too much" and are insecure might read this thread the wrong way (((hugs))) I see it as a site eval, personally.
I don't fit the category of a postaholic, with regards to the reasons why I post or lack the compulsions you list... but do fit it if you simply go by the count. But, being it's a fun thread... who cares!? Postaholics

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
