I finally was able to get in touch with a woman I had spoken to last year at a county mental health consumer agency when they were doing a survey of consumers using the supported living services agency I was signed up with. I related to her all the problems I had with them, including the fact they lost all my belongings. They had been willing to only replace a desk for me, not much, but better than nothing.

Not much they can do about my mother's china, etc.

However, I digress. They had been giving me the run around for almost 2 years, never getting me the desk they promised. They had been giving me all sorts of reasons. I could have sworn they had said, around the time of the survey, that they had already ordered it, but they said they didn't. Of course, I was wrong (and doubted myself too) because I have mental illness and they don't.

When I spoke to the woman from this agency today about my other problems, I mentioned to her I didn't get the desk. She was very surprised. Seems they had told HER also that they already ordered it. She was furious, and is going to call them again.

Also, and interestingly, when she asked me to call her Monday with a list of my present workers, I offfered to fax it. She said not to, to call her with it, because, "you never know who will be around to see it."

That was great validation too. I know a lot of people, just because of my illnesses, think that of course I'm being paranoid, and people are not protecting themselves and each other. If they don't think it, they are told it.

If she's concerned about some of these others seeing it at this time, then maybe I'm not so paranoid after all.

You know what they say, doens't meant someone really isn't out to get you YIPPEEE!!! i'VE BEEN VALIDATED!!!

Maybe some hope maybe? Well, we'll see.

PS: Was in chat last night, and just the chance to vent a little made me feel a lot better, and I was able to eat something for the first time in 2 days. Thank you for being there!

CatWhispers what excellent news. I hope this comes to some actual progress but in the meantime I'm glad you are able to feel good about being listened to and believed.

It sounds like these people are serious slouchers and that the woman you spoke with today may either suspect that or maybe has had other complaints. Once there is a central point where multiple complaints are received, they can no longer cover their tracks with lies and excuses.

If you can, from now on keep a written record of everything they say to you. If you have a log... "on such-and-such day, they said desk had been ordered" "on this day, they say desk has not been ordered and that I was mistaken about them saying so" and also the names of the people who say each thing.

Now that you have an advocate, a log like that might bust through any claims of you being "confused" because of your mental illness.

Good luck with this... I hope it continues to progress positively!!!

I'm very happy for you, Cat! It's too bad about all your things, but I hope they do get your desk to you soon.
