Before my granddaughter was born, I decided to educate myself about childbirth. I took a class online to become a Doula (word means servant). I really did it just for my own knowledge, but some how the head of the Birthing Center in my town found out, and called me about coming to work ! (It starts as a Volunteer position - and after I become certified with 3 births, the local Pregancy Center is going to apply for a Grant to pay me to attend to young girls with no partner to support her thru labor (Thats what a Doula does - totally supports, caters too, explains things to the laboring Mom). I am really psyched ! Watching my granddaughter be born was so awesome, I really dont care if it isnt a paid position - I just want to help Moms to be have the best experience possible ! Just wanted to share my news !

That is really cool. Everyone should have a job that is something they would love doing anyway. If you can get certified to get paid that will be awesome too because you deserve it. But it is fulfilling and worthwhile just to know you are helping in a very valuable way also.

Cool...I've decided that when I have kids I want a doula. I watch Baby Story on TLC and all the baby shows on Discovery Health and the ones that have a doula seem to do better than those that don't.
