I was watching 'ugly betty' (a show in the us) and they showed a womman with borderline personality disorder as a psychotic pyromaniac. I have bpd and I get so angry that tv shows continue to show these stereotypes

I hear you - I think the media plays a big role in the misconceptions and stigmas surrounding MI. Sorry it was upsetting to you - I try to remind myself that these portrayals are mostly based on ignorance and looking for the drama, rather than the reality of MI.

So, what else is new? I have yet to see a positive portrayal of a mentally ill person functioning like everyone else in a typical role on TV or in the media. The focus is always on the illness, not the person.I can't watch them anymore, they trigger me.

TV seems to help with forming opinions and causes rumors and slander. It`s not fair to those who ask for help and/or understanding, it actually causes more problems. I`ve read so many times how TV has destroyed many peoples lives. I don`t watch it.
