It occurs to me that for a better portion of my 17 years of life, my personality seems a tad warped, I'm generally polite to strangers, I may tease a bit and all that friendly stuff. But to the people I care most about I tend to be a complete witch, pointing out their faults, being uncooperative, generally being mean, why do I do this? I want to be nice to the person but I cant stop myself from blurting out the meanest remarks or the things they really don't want to hear at the time. How can I stop myself from doing this? It's really starting to hurt my relationships, at least, that's what I think considering my boyfriend is getting annoyed with it and I'm sure its wearing on my best friend's nerves. It even bothers me if I listen to what exactly I'm saying.

I have been considering returning to therapy, but I'm not sure when I will get around to doing that, seeing as my life is about to get a lot busier when I run off to college, and the fact that I am a very avoiding person and I will not likely return to therapy of my own accord

HI Crysis, recognition is the first step toward solving a problem, you recognise what's happening so that's a good start.
I've had (and still do have critical people in my life).
My advise would be not to be just critical, do what you do but make it 'constructive'. Then anything you say may not be taken as critical or cruel. (also you're 17, you'll find in life we all have our moments as we grow, having good guidence is always a good thing).

Do you think you do this to distance yourself? Maybe you struggle with close relationships for whatever reason?
