Hello. I've been using medicines for social phobia about 3 years. Doctors tried different medicines, sometimes it worked, sometimes not.

Now I've read about Body dysmorphic disorder and I think I have it and my social phobia is because of it.

What are cures for Body dysmorphic disorder? Therapy will work? I don't want to use medicines anymore.

Hi there,
I'm much the same way in that I suspect I might have BDD too. Therapy is the most widely used treatment, yes. There is no "cure" for the disorder, or any mental health issue, really. Therapy takes time and a lot of hard work, but can also be a very rewarding experience. Keep talking if it helps x

Gentle hugs to you ((Cannot))

Medications aren't helpful in treating BDD. The only treatment that I know of is therapy. Meeting with a group and/or therapist is the necessity. It does take a long time to change the way that we look at ourselves, and stop bad habits that we've picked up in life. Changing habits takes time and determination.

Puting cards throughout your room, or house, with lines that encourage you can be very helpful. Lines like: I feel good today. Or," I am healthy. Go for a walk!" etc. Talking with others who struggle with BDD ~ and are at different levels of health can also be very helpful in getting through tough times. Starting healthy new habits, to replace the old, helps tto.

Best wishes!
