I do this all the time, having conversations talk with my self out loud I try not to for it in public but I have been doing it at work more often
It gets bad enough that I started questioning myself if I did it when ppl are around, I think I scared one lady when I went out for a smoke and she quickly went back into the building another I saw in the smoking area just gave me a strange look.

My boyfriend told me this is usually a sign of loneliness anyone else's thoughts?

I tend to do it when really stressed or complex thinking, well wait I do bored too....
Some coworkers that know me for some times just laugh if I'm talking to a vending machine asking it why it doesn't like my money I usually try to make a joke if I'm caught, or coffee machine if I'm making a mess, again maybe humor for some, or say they don't mind, but Idk how normal is this?

Hey Beauflow,

YES!!! I do this and yes its apparently associated with being lonely. I have actually been caught doing it when I was on NightShift and a colleague talked to me about it.... highly embarrassing btw!! My Parents say I have always been like this. I actually have conversations with "people". I imagine people with me. For instance if I meet someone who seems nice and that I really gotten on with I will imagine them with me. I use to do it more when I was at school and would pretend I was talking to my teachers. I just can't help it. I also use to talk to flowers and plants.... how crazy do I sound lol
Thanks for this!

I heard or read a study a while back that said people talk to themselves 95% more than they talk to others.

So I wouldn't worry or feel it is abnormal. If fact little children do it all the time in self play and they even have their dolls and stuffed animals over for tea parties.
I think that is why we are so attacted to cell phones and all the networking we do now. We like to think out loud and practice thought patterns and our brain like to exercise the ability for thought and processing.

We even do it more when we are angry or dealing with a lot of stress.

Don't worry about it, it is normal, we are our own best listeners.

i would like to thank whoever invented the hands free phone kits, because of them it looks like most people walking down the street are talking to themselves, so i do not stick out like a sore thumb when my mind wanders and i really am talking to myself!!!! i find my conversations are often ones i have with me, i always get the reply i was looking for!
I talk to myself out loud sometimes just to hear a human voice that is not through electronics. i have on occasion made myself jump when i am home alone and my mind has wandered and i suddenly say something out loud!
Thanks for this!

I would say if it works for you, go with it. I actually record myself for about an hour (the length of a therapy session) and I gotta say, it has really helped me learn to love myself. I've got recordings of myself just b.s.ing, some where I am in the middle of a nervous breakdown crying my eyes out. I found it to be really cool tat I'm in a place now where I can go back and listen and be ok with the fact that its "me".

If it starts giving you problems that threaten to interfere with you being happy and functioning-then that might be a concern. If you're curious as to why you're doing it...the more you talk about it the more you'll discover.

Take care,
-obj

I like the way animals try to talk. I have the cutest pony that loves to talk and make noises. He is white and has a very cute intelligent face, everyone loves his face. But what really is special about him is how much he loves to cuddle and talk. And he doesn't just winny, he makes all kinds of grunting and squeaking noises so that he makes sure that he is heard. He winnies really loud, the loudest in the bunch but then after he winnies he say's eh, eh, eh, but an an up and down eh eh eh like a human would while talking. It is very bazaar.

Of all the horses and ponies I have had they all sound different and they all winney and make different noises. And I have two shitzus that make all kinds of noises and if they make a noise I like and it gets a response they like to repeat it as I respond.
One of my shitzu's says ma ma and he also makes a new deep yowl noise. And if I have a treat they will both sing. And both of my shitzus do peek a boo with their little paws covering and rubbing their eyes. My bigger one sits up on his hinny and brings himself up like a little person sitting up right with his paws rubbing his eyes "Peek a boo" now give me a treat.

Open Eyes

It never ceases to amaze me what animals will learn for us and from us.

I do this all of the time. I talk to computers all of the time. They usually do not do as they are told. When I think through Ideas and the not so good times when I ruminate because I am upset.

I have always talked to myself. Some of that could have come from being an only child who played alone a lot. But even now I am quite chatty with myself especially when I am angry and trying to work through the anger. LOL I vent to myself.
Thanks for this!

LOL I catch my self doing this a lot. It's embarrassing when it happens in a public place. Sometimes I talk to myself on purpose, to get my head together, or sometimes end up talking to myself when I'm really stressed out. Sometimes when I'm in bad shape I end up replaying things in my head that have happened in the past and talking out loud like I'm still in the situation, and then come back to reality and I'm at work with other people around, and then I feel stupid .

It's the worst, though, when you're in a public bathroom or on the bus. Sometimes I think about words or phrases in other languages when I'm off in my own little world and try to pronounce them out loud without thinking first that I'm in front of other people.

Usually, though, I laugh out loud about things that are funny in my head and then can't explain to people why I'm laughing because they wouldn't get it.

I don't really know what all of this means, but I'm pretty sure it's normal and that most people accidentally talk out loud to themselves.

I talk out loud to myself, my animals, my plants, my truck and other inanimate objects. Have done it most of my life. Personally I don't think it means anything. At times it's a matter of "thinking out loud".
Thanks for this!

I think most people do it. And that is why I think it is odd that we get embarrassed when we get caught doing it. I guess it is just one of those things that we have to do in private and it is only a shock when we forget and do it in front of others.
