I have medicare part D for my prescription meds and I have now crossed into the donut hole where my insurance covers very little cost of prescriptions. My selegiline for the month was over $100 and I can't pay that without cutting back on utilities or food. I have a telephone number that I can call during the day tomorrow to see if I qualify for income assistance but get this...
I was searching "selegiline" and "price" and I found the same dose for a month that I need for sale for dogs for $30 less than people pharmacy. What the hey?! Will email my pdoc if I can't get assistance. I wonder if the FDA monitors pet drugs. ![]()

I understand your frustration. I am on a med that costs $1900/month. I hit the donut hole almost immediately.
I ended up on the patient assistance program for the med, but the interesting thing is that I don't qualify financially because my disability is too high to qualify according to federal standards, but I just have to appeal & get the price of the med from the pharmacy & then they review that & I end up being accepted for the program. I decided because it's the only med I'm on that I just got rid of my prescription plan...no point in paying for the plan & the co-pay until the donut hole hits, then having to apply for the patient assistance at that point, it's just easier & less expensive to me to just stay on the patient assistance program. Funny thing, my dog Destiny is on Benazapril for her heart & furosomide. My vet wouldn't give me a presctiption to get it at the pet meds RX place because he said they would require an EKG before allowing the prescription.....so wanted to charge me $97 for 3 months supply of the meds (that was his discounted price). I talked to my pharmacist & he said those meds are dirt cheap & that was rediculous for them to charge me that price & yes, the pharmacy does do prescriptions for pets. The pharmacy has programs for people without insurance...& my doggie doesn't have prescription insurance either.....but I can get the meds for so much cheaper at the pharmacy. Told the vet that I couldn't afford his extreme price & that the only way to afford it was through the pharmacy or I couldn't afford to give her the meds. He finally relented & gave me the prescription & my dog now has her own account at the pharmacy, known as Destiny-Dog (my last name). Only paying $50 for the 3 month supply rather than $97. Drug costs are such a stupid game....but to answer your question, NO, pet meds are NOT controlled by the FDA, so you don't know what the quality is like for them.
