My friend is going to see a dr soon and she is convinced she will be locked up (in a mental ward) because she has images/thoughts/urges of hurting or killing people but would never act on them (and has never in the past). She is really worried and is going for depression too. Does anyone know what this could be? Because I really want to help her.

Hey there WelcomeToTheJungle,
The GP will need to make sure she is not a danger to herself or anyone else.... this is called a "duty of care" which all GP's, Psych's etc have to weigh up. If she isn't a threat to herself etc she will not be "locked up" do you think she is making herself worse cause she fretting about being "locked up"? Try and get her to calm down and to not to worry so much. The doctor(s) are here to help us ok! |

Yes, I agree with Miss Laura--the doctors are here to help us. If your friend gets "locked up" maybe it would be a step towards recovery. But, the doctors only admit you to a psych ward if you are a danger to yourself or others. Its good that she has a friend like you to talk to. Hang in there.

In my opinion, it would be doubtful provided she had no intentions of acting upon them... It's HIGHLY unlikely she'd admited for depression unless she was sucidal. In most cases there just isn't the room to admit people in unless their suicidal/homicidal.
