I was diagnosed with Major depression with psychotic features and poly substance abuse in 1989. After years of therapy and meds and 12 step meetings things have really improved. It has been a difficult road, but it is now becoming tolerable, even enjoyable. I only take an anti-depressant currently, and I am able to manage myself and my life very effectivly. I've been able to quit smoking cigs, even though I had accepted them as being part of my life till death. I feel much better now and I am very happy I was able to quit.
I have been able to work part time since 1996 and my employers have always considered me to be a good worker. I tried working full time, without benefits, for a year. Things became too out of control and I had to go into the hospital for a short time. I resumed working part time and if I want to work full time, I need to prepare for that and plan. I tried working 60+ hours at a c-store and part time at a fast food joint. I think that would stress out anyone. I've been married for 10 years and my wife and I are best friends also. I've helped her to raise her son, my step-son, and he is succeding in school, he is 16, and participates in extra-curricular activities. He also does boy scouts and learns martial arts. I feel very happy that he is building the foundation for a successful adult life. It helps me to know I was able to protect him from things I wasn't protected from. I feel empowered finially. I still have therapy and see my doctor and go to twelve step groups. It has been difficult but I made it and, I believe, others can too. Thanks, A. |
