So today is my birthday, and hubby is upset because he couldn't afford to buy me a birthday card, and it hit him too late that him and the kids could have made one. Plus, he just took our tv to the pawnshop to we can pay some bills and get gas. So he's in a lousy mood.

So yeah, all around a great day.

OMG, Banfield Veterinary Hospital just called, I have an interview tomorrow for a position as a Veterinary Technician!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so incredibly nervous! I used to be AWESOME at my job, but I haven't worked in 12 years. I have forgotten a lot. I do still remember a lot, and I'm a very fast learner, so with a quick fresh up course I should be fine. Question is, will they be willing to give me that fresh up course.

I don't know what to wear to the interview. I have never had a formal interview in my life. I always just got hired. I have nothing to wear. I'm down to one pair of jeans. Can I wear jeans to an interview? And OMG, the scars on my arm!

I am so nervous!!!

Woo-hoo! on the interview! Wear something clean & neat. Feel like the vet tech you know you are. You'll be fine.

Be 5 minutes early! --so you can take a few deep breaths & be calm, relaxed, breathing normally, when you walk in the door on time.

You'll do great, whenwillitend. And Happy Birthday.

Happy Birthday!

Just dress the best you can. Do you have a nice blouse to go with the jeans? Any chance of getting to a thrift store?

A good question to ask at the end of the interview is "What are you looking for from a person you are hiring in this position?"

It shows that you are interested in what they want out of an employee.

Good luck tomorrow!

Thank you all! I do have some nice things to wear with the jeans, but the shoes are a problem. Pretty much all I own is tennis shoes and snow boots. Ugh! I'm going to be a nervous wreck by tomorrow.

Happy birthday and congrats on getting an interview.

I think jean and tennis shoes are fine to interview for a vet tech job.

Do you have any references handy from your previous job? Telephone numbers or names where you worked before?

I've not worked in about as many years and am wanting to work again too and I know the scary but exciting feeling.

Best of luck!

Thank you!

Yes, I put references on my resume. The only problem is that I worked in Germany before, I don't know if Banfield wants to make an international phone call. I do however have an english letter of recommendation from my old employer. I'm sure that'll help.

I've been looking through my old Vet Tech books as a refresher. I feel like I have an exam tomorrow that I haven't studied for.

Hm. Not sure how it went. I would say I did okay overall. She said they're interviewing people all through next week, and I should hear something by Friday.
I kinda don't think I'll get the job. I've been out of the loop for too long, and I'm sure they'll find someone more fitting for the job. I don't know. We'll have to see.

All of the above suggestions are great.

Also sell "yourself" Remember or write down the things you can offer them.
Practice what you'll say regarding what you are good at & what you enjoy about the job.

A little preparation can go a long way.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Thank you all! I have another interview Wednesday, with a petsitting company. I would really love to have that job. I LOVE walking dogs, and since I don't have my own anymore, I would love to walk other people's dogs. Plus, I would be able to take care of all kinds of animals, and get my "pet fix" that way. It pays pretty good too.
I'd rather get this job than the one at the Vet clinic.

I was nervous about the last interview, but I'm excited about this one.

Just found out that hubby's unemployment pay will kick in in two days. What a relief! We'll be able to pay some bills. Bit by bit, things are starting to look up.

Do you think it's okay to wear slightly flared jeans to a job interview? That's really all there is in my size. I bought a new pair today, they are brandnew, dark wash, and fit well. I also bought a pair of shoes to wear to the interview. Took care of all my money, but I have to have something to wear to interviews.

Anyway, do you think slightly flared is okay? I would have liked straight ones, but like I said, they don't exist in my size. At least I haven't found any.

Now I'm totally nervous that I might not get the job because of my weight. Petsitting/dogwalking is an active job, and I AM active, I just don't look like it thanks to my love for food and cooking/baking.

Yes, I did. I posted about it in Depression. Because my husband lost his job and we're barely getting by, we had to rehome all of our animals except for one cat. And my son still has his rats and his hamster. But the other cat and all the dogs are gone. We just can't afford to take care of them right now. It was an incredibly difficult decision, but we knew it was the right one when our Basset started limping a couple of days before the new owners were going to pick her up, and we couldn't afford to take her to the Vet. Luckily, when I told the new owners, they came immediately and got her to take her in. It's a sad sad situation, and I feel horrible, but we found them all awesome homes, the cat we had to bring back to the shelter we got her from, that was a requirement.

sorry...you have had a string of no luck with the dogs..isn't that like 5 or 6 you have gone thru...i do hope things work out for you. i hope they found good homes.

the basset puppy probably had pano...which is similar to growing pains...it is not uncommon as they are large heavy boned dogs,. usually can be eased by just rest & sometimes an anti-inflamatory .

i hope the job at petsmart works out.

Please don't give me a hard time. This is difficult enough for us. It's not a decision that was made lightly, and I fought it tooth and nail at first.

Right now we just need to work on getting through this. Were we prepared for something like this? No, not at all. Should we have been? Absolutely. Like I said before, we had a plan, but I guess it wasn't the best plan. It depended on my husband working overseas for a few years.

I'm just hoping we'll get back on our feet soon.

Thank you! Yes, my interview is in two hours. Slowly getting ready. I practiced last night with hubby, hopefully I'm better prepared this time.
