Just curious to know what areas of this site you could be in if your location is Private??

Hi Twisted_Soul.
In your profile you will come across this question "Do you want to be visible on the "Who's Online" screen?" Which would eliminate you from the "Who's Online" list. But there is also this question, "Do you want users to see the actual forum/post you are looking at? " This gives the option to the user to not show their location. Hope this helps. __________________ |

When I chose the option of "Do you want users to see the actual forum/post you are looking at? " as no - it still showed up where I was on the "Who's online" screen. Or it did on mine at any rate.

I don't think it has anything to do w/ that because I see same people in locations of viewing posts, to replying to messages and also at times in Private.

I've wondered this a few times. The only thing that I can think of is when a person's screen saver has come on on their puter, after being idle?
What do y'all think? kd __________________ |

It has everything to do with your settings. The only difference is when you're checking to see who's on-line. It shows up there.
This setting can be changed at any time depending on how that particular member feels on that particular day whether they want others to know where they are or not or whether they want others to see them. __________________ Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. |

Go to your Profile and click on the person icon where it says "edit." Go down to the bottom of the page and you'll see your choices.

I am not talking about being Invisible.
I am talking about when you can see the name online and their location is Private. __________________ |

What is a "TMI"? Perhaps a little less jargon for us computer dummies! (Or me, that is)

TMI= Too Much Information
Now, I am going to try and clarify my question because I don't think anyone is understanding me. At this point and time if you go to Who's Online it will give you User Name/Invisable Member/then their status/then their title/then their last activity/then finally LOCATION. It doesn't matter if you can see the user name or the person wants to be invisible, sometimes people are in the LOCATION of PRIVATE. This is what I am asking about. What section on this site would one be in if they were private. They could go from Private, to reading pms to looking at forums. So, it isn't a tab to click on your personal profile. __________________ |

Thank you for the explanation of TMI.
I understand you query - I just can't answer. I have answered NO to the question - "Do you want to be visible on the "Who's Online" screen?" and it continues to show where I am at. (On my side anyway). __________________ Crying isn't a sign of weakness. It's a sign of having tried too hard to be strong for too long. |

Again, I say

Quote:
Go to your Profile and click on the person icon where it says "edit." Go down to the bottom of the page and you'll see your choices.

This is where you set your preferences as how you want to be viewed or not viewed on the board. You can choose to have your name show up but not what you are doing, etc. __________________ Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. |

I have mine set to invisable AND not to be seen as far as where I am YET I never show up as private...I think it's suspect it applies to only some and that we are to just not be concerned on it as zh posted from Dr John..this has NEVER made sense to me...I do know private seems to apply to certain people..I have seen mods with it and x mods...I know all my settings and I do not come up as private
It's almost like an X file __________________ |

It must, imo, relate to administrative issues. If a visitor does anything administratively "directly" (after registering a new member), or a mod or admin edits or deletes a post, or goes into a staff chat, that all shows as "Private" I believe.
Otherwise, if you choose to be visible, others see: You're changing your basic profile, viewing your My Home, reading/replying to a post, or making a new post, or in chat. There's an option to not show exactly what post/forum you're reading. It used to be that way all the time. DocJohn gave us additional privacy to opt out of that. __________________ |
