Anyone in here work in the DMV department in Virginia?

I am asking for it seems that while my son was in the NAVY (last 3 months of 2005) - that some people he thought was his friends, took his car and forged some documents and now it appears as though his car is registered in their name and they show as owners on the car he is driving and paying for.

How can this kind of thing happen? - I thought you needed a TITLE to get a car registered in ones name? I hope we do not have to go back to VA to have this matter taken care of.

Any one got any ideals to how I should go about helping my son resolve this situation....

The original car loan is still in my sons name (no transfer shown) and we have our copy of the " Bill of Sale" - but when we went to have the car worked on and the warranty place ran the VIN # it shows the other person as the owner (per VA car registration) with car insurance on the car. Eeeek!!

Thanks.... the warranty place is trying to help us resolve this problem.... but I would like to get the ball moving faster, we just found out about this all tonight - and now it is the weekend.

BTW - We are going to bring charges against the man & woman involved in this crime.

Gosh Rhapsody, that's horrible. I'm so sorry that happened. I don't have any answers but I wanted you to know we read and care. Good luck on resolving this issue.

He has his car back now.... but when he was in the NAVY and out to sea back in Nov of last year they took care of his car for him... for about 30 to 45 days.... long story here - but the people who took care of the car did a lot wrong during this time and they gave my son the run around when he came to get his car back - they took his registration form that was in his car, and now he doesn't have that proof and they some how got the car registered in their name in VA.... but once again WE HAVE THE CAR (in another state with us).

How could something like this happen without them having the title to the car? - they had to sign his name on something.... isn't that fraud?

It's fraud and your son needs to contact the authorities immediately and press charges against his ex friends. That's grand theft auto.

Hugs,

Jan

Call the VA State Police. They will either be able to handle it or be able to refer you to the person who can.

Hugs,

Jan

I know in Ga if the car is over a certain age you don't need the title...just a bill of sale

Ok.... the call has been made, now we play the waiting game (and) phone tag game...no one at the VA DMV really wanted to help me out (kept on telling me to call a lawyer). Well, that was until I calmly mention that if I did have to call a lawyer that the DMV would be at fault in this title fraud case - for someone there processed the title change without proper proof or consent from my son.

Teehee - I can get tough when I need to.... but always with polite manners... DMV department in Virginia -

OK.... still not getting any where with the numbers and names given to me by the DMV - is there any one (on this forum) that lives in or around Norfolk, VA that might be able to obtain any INFO for ME?

THX.... any name or number that might point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
