Ive heard that people have personas, without showing their true nature. But you know what - I dont think people are stupid - I never have. I think people do recognise and know what each other are like, but we dont say anything because it would be rude and we cant change each other anyway so whats the point?. I think that whatever persona I or everyone has, the real personality always show through - that would be really sad if things were so bad - human beings decieved themselves and we never knew who we are. is this a useless question

I think people definitely have different personas (personae?), depending on the situation/audience. For example, when I'm at work, talking with clients, I present myself as professional and helpful. In real life, I'm kind of wacky and sarcastic and I have a sick sense of humor. That probably wouldn't go over very well with clients.

I dated a guy once who was very good at making himself be whomever he needed to be to get what he wanted. He could turn his emotions off and on at will. I think that's because he never really felt those emotions, he just knew how they should look based on observing others. It was really kind of fascinating to watch him in action. He never really had any long term relationships and I think that's because he never truly showed anyone who he really was, for real. It makes me sad for him.

I think if you dig into the Myers Briggs and Enneagram and others there are a lot of different ways people think. Makes the world interesting! (and sometimes frustrating!)

Yeah, I think people have personas for where they are (at least I do). my home/family self is completely different to my friend self, and even that differs for different friendship groups. I can also change to be the person my friends need me to be at a particular time.

I think it takes time and an intimate relationship to get to know "all" of a person, or as much as we can. I don't think friends or coworkers can know all of "me" unless they are/have been friends for a long time. A sense of me can be gotten; I'm always intelligent, creative, amusing, critical, etc. and that can be seen in all my roles but unless you know my background, where I'm coming from, my interests and goals, I think a deeper appreciation of me will be missing for you.
