Hi All,

Geeesh!!! Just got off my Federal and State income tax returns this morning. Paid my Federal bill in full, and sent some money for State. Learned last week there is a 60-day grace period in Kansas. Thank you, Lord, thank you!!!

However, also sent our half-year land property tax, almost $600, with the rest of the bills this morning.

Guess what came in the mail this afternoon, our property tax on our truck, due at the end of May -- almost $500. There goes my next paycheck from teaching, which I should received around May 15th.

Please anybody else, who feels tax poor please write!

EJ

((( EJ))) I am sorry this gov takes too much from the regular people....State can and may work out a long term payment plan I know Fed does..but the stress ya know...I am stunned you pay tax on the truck? We dont have that here..you get taxes rolled into like your car payments or if you pay cash for the car...once way back in my life..whine I actually had the money to pay cash for a brand new car..they roll it into the whole amt..that stinks EJ Taxed to the Max

Sleeps,

We get taxed on the truck every year. The sales tax was already paid when we purchased the vehicle.

What I understand about the Kansas tax, is that if I get it all paid off by the 60-day grace period, nothing happens.

I just never felt so burdened by taxes as I do right this moment.

Thanks for your note.

Hi Drunkensunflower -

I'm teaching part-time at a local community college. We'll be all right. I've just never felt like I've paid so much tax until now. We're in a semi-retired situation so that's really confusing to me.

Oh well.

Yes, the "personal property tax" in Kansas and Missouri truly sucks... the good part is that it goes down each year as the value of your vehicle declines.

I moved to the midwest (Kansas) from Tennessee about 20 years ago. At that time it cost $18.75 in TN to get your car tags. When I went to get KS tags it cost like $300!!! I was flabbergasted! In Missouri we just had to get the "personal property tax" paid by Dec. 31. I made it a point to go to the courthouse and pay it at about 4:00 pm each New Year's Eve...I wasn't going to let them have the money any sooner than absolutely possible! (Which is pretty much my philosophy on taxation...treat them the way they treat me)!

Oh, well...I guess that's the price we pay for a civilised society...now if we would simply ACT like one, I'd be happy!

I got to the post office at 10 last night. I had to pay in to both state and fed this year and I don't have the money. I post-dated the check to the state, so hopefully it will be ok. If I hadn't waited until the last minut, I could have covered both with the property tax refund that I'll get in a few weeks. We need to have more taken ot of our paychecks now that our dear little deductions have grown up.

Davey -

I know about it going down, but right at this moment it doesn't help me feel better.

But I appreciate your trying to make me feel better. I've been here going on nine years. Most of the registration money goes into the Library System. So I have dealt with the high sticker shock of car registration, by going to the library a lot here.

Thanks,

EJ

Thanks for sharing your tax woes.

My big hit came from taking money out of our IRAs to make ends meet. I was also just so busy trying to make ends meet, taxes did not cross my mind.

Have a great day!!! I'm glad you're getting a refund in a few weeks!!!
