I love it! I ordered the 20 pound adult sized for a twin bed. This was the heaviest weight available. I bought it from SensaCalm online. I've used it to rest under during the day when I'm tired and stressed, and it is wonderful.
I feel I probably have always had ADHD. I also tend to obsess about things. The blanket is very comforting. There are many instructions for making your own weighted blankets online. I already have some of the poly beads, which I had ordered for making bean bags. These poly beads are not very expensive, so if you have a sewing machine and some fabric, making one would not be too hard. The poly beads would be the best choice, but I saw instructions for using everything from peas to modeling clay in plastic zipper bags! ![]() |

The weight seems to be beneficial for people with Aspergers and Autism. But I knew from having slept under weight myself, while staying with my grandmother as a child and sleeping under heavy comforters that there is something comforting about it. I also used to own a heavy feather pillow, an ancient pillow, that I would place over my head at night to block out sounds. I loved that pillow, but I could also hear vermin crawling in it...I'm not kiddin'. I plan to make my own weighted pillow from the poly beads.
Sounds crazy, eh! ![]() |

Does the blanket give you the same sensation, as a heavy duvet? I ask, because the puffiness of blankets also makes them very comforting.

I've thought about making one for my 9.5 year old who has adhd. she loves to pile on the blankets, i am guessing for the weight of them, but then gets SO hot! Maybe i'll find a pattern and make one!

I've been thinking of getting a weighted blanket. I have PTSD. I sleep with a comforter and a heavy quilt on my bed right now and I love the heaviness and I sleep well with it. I've always liked the way it feels when I'm in bed resting.
It's funny. When ever I go to the dentist and they put the lead drape on to take the x-rays, I always ask if they'll leave it on for a bit during the dental work. It makes me feel more calm.

My last T seemed to think I might have tactile defensiveness disorder (or whatever it's called) and I think my new T might also think i have it, because she brought up the same questions... I really want to get a weighted blanket or to make one, but haven't had the time or money. I did find a pattern for one online, though.
http://craftnectar.com/2009/09/03/ca...hted-blankets/ Like I said, I haven't made it yet, so I'm not sure how great it is (but it doesn't look too terribly hard...) Seeker, congrats on the new blanket! That's awesome ![]() |

I too have always liked the dentist's apron. and when I visited italy when I was 20 (40 years ago), one of my most vivid memories was sleeping at a cousin's with his widowed stepmom, under the HEAVIEST quilts to where you could hardly move - and it was awesome! They were very poor, but she knew something we didn't know. I mean this is folk knowledge?

I love the dentist's X-ray apron too!
I really want to make my own. I try sleeping with lots of blankets but it always gets too hot.

This looks like something I would like!
I tend to go heavy on the blankets and pillows myself. I find that I get very cold in the middle of the night and need a lot of blankets. Often times I don't feel cold until I crawl into bed, after which I feel like I can't sleep unless I'm really warm! I love to sleep with a fan, both for the white noise and to cool myself off when the blankets are too much.. I have a bad habit of getting over eager about the blankets and waking up in a sweat, even though it was a peaceful night. However, lately I've been sleeping a lot more lighter and I'm enjoying it. Just two pillows, a quilt, and a sheet. ![]() I also have a stuffed leopard and a stuffed dalmatian that add to the cuddle factor. ![]() |
