I have been told that Bichons make wonderful support animals since they need lots of love and attention. I can't seem to find a resue animal for under $250. I am checking into groups who might help. In the meantime please send me your best thoughts/wishes and prayers so that I adopt just the right animal whether it's a Bichon or a Heinz47. We need to be just the right match for I have lots of love to lavish upon him/her.

Thank you,

Jan

Have you contacted your local humane society? I had Bichon Frise ...very friendly dogs....might want to check to see if the dog has stones in its bladder.

P.s. Also, contact your Vet for other options.

Doberman Pincher as an Attack Dog?! ARE YOU SERIOUS? Bichons as Emotional Support Animal Our Doberman Pinchers were the BIGGEST BABIES! One night my mom thought someone was trying to break into our home...dog didnt make one move...not even a bark! She had to pick our Doberman Pincher off the bed and ask him to let out a few angry sounding barks! Which he did...and then look at us as if to say "can I go back to bed now?" They take a lot of time energy and hair care LOL I don't know you well, but to me, this breed takes more than you are able to give right now. Bichons as Emotional Support Animal Of course you know by now that a therapy dog is not a service dog, and cannot go everywhere with you Bichons as Emotional Support Animal

Did I give this all encompassing disabilities site link before??? http://www.icdi.wvu.edu/Others.htm

And this one is for the Wolfpacks a listing of service animals organizations and links. http://wolfpacks.com/serviced.htm

This site has additional links, plus a newsletter or assistance for those disabled ppl who wish to train their own dog http://www.inch.com/~dogs/service.html

Please read at this site about choosing a dog. http://home1.gte.net/vze6ygo6/NewDog.html There's more involved than can be imagined at times!

Bichon Frise's are difficult to train.(They don't even like to be housebroken) They don't take to harsh handling (such as might happen by a child in a library) nor do they do well around some larger breeds of dogs. If you aren't planning on needing the dog for service outside the home, then it might be ok. They do well for therapy dogs (when the owner carries the dog to the hospital and from bed to bed, type work.)

Of course, no one allows an animal to be abused, but the dog needs to be able to not snap at it when it happens, but "allow" and retreat and take the disabled owner out of the situation. Bichons as Emotional Support Animal

Dub, interesting, our friends have a Bichon, and from the day they got him, he pees on certain things, certain rooms, etc., while the "shelter dog" they have is great.
I'm not an expert, but the toys and terriers tend to have a "peeing problem", personally I have never had that problem with my dogs, and my parents never had that with their dogs, and together we have had many dogs, mutts, as well as pedigrees.
But like anything else, a person has to really be into the breed and fully know as much as possible about the breed, before making a decision. If the dog is just for emotional support and not a service dog, I'd say breed or mixed it doesn't matter. As far as a Service dog, I really do not see a Bichon as a Service dog.
You have to do what your heart tells you, when deciding on a pet, what your needs as well as the dog.
I wish you loads of love, luck and good health.
And of all things, happiness with what your choice is, and happiness for what choice of pet you have.

..... maybe off topic, but in the 50s and 60s the Dobie was the #1 attack dog (when trained) and was close to being banned in South Fl for that reason. My best friend had a trained one, and it would tear anything to shreds if alerted to do so! But yes, she was a sweetheart with my friend and I (young ladies.)

Don't you know how vicious my sweet lab can be if he needed to be??? I have stories (I've only seen his teeth shown once though) ... and we had 2 dobies high tailing it towards us on a walk one day.... he's a gem.
