Hello. I just learned of the concept of 'emotional thought stopping' today. As I understand it, it's the practice of saying, (silently or aloud), "STOP" when intrusive ideas or trains of thought keep coming into your head, so that a person can decrease the amount of ruminating and obsessive thinking they engage in.

It's different, apparently, from 'positive thinking', because one does not try to 'force into' one's conscious mind, 'happy' thoughts that one is not already thinking, although, as a person stops obsessively dwelling on the negative, (for example), more positive thoughts may bubble up from the subconscious.

Today, I tried this with a situation that occurred this morning. Once I had decided what course of action to take re: the situ., I then started saying stop whenever the subject came back up in my mind again, because at that point, the thoughts wouldn't have been productive, but just a 'replay' of the conversation/scenario/past wrongs/negative feelings/justifications, etc., of all of my feelings that I had, or could have, attached to the thoughts.

So far it's working. What do you guys think?

Regards, Peanut

each situation is different. sometimes we need to think about stuff and work through the issues. other times, we need to take a break from thinking. it's about healing.

i tend to block things too much, so for me, i need to think about stuff more.
