I need Mother's Day related opinions, if anyone is so inclined.
For my own mother, I've gotten the obligatory card and I'll figure out some gift. I'm not excited about it, but I'll figure something out. Then there's the woman I WISH was my mother. She was my teacher 20 years ago in elementary school. We've kept in contact over the years, but have become much closer over the past 3 months or so. She tells me I'm like the daughter she never had. I've gotten her a really sweet card that I'm excited about sending and I feel relatively comfortable about doing it. I'm also thinking about a gift, but wonder whether or not it would be appropriate.....you know, what would her own children think? Should I even be concerned with what they'd think? (1 lives here, 1 a couple of hours away, and the other 2 on opposite sides of the country) And if sending something wouldn't be hugely inappropriate, what kind of gift should it be. Obviously something that isn't expensive, but I'd like it to be meaningful. And as much love as there is for her, I'm just starting to really KNOW her, so I'm not sure what she'd like. Help!!!! |

Her kids would probably like to know that someone else appreciates her as much as they do. It doesn't really matter, though.
How about some flowers for her? Or maybe a small figurine of some kind or a pretty picture frame with no picture in it. Give her the option of using it as she wants. Good luck! __________________ Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. |

I reckon a small token of your love and appreciation would be appropriate. I agree with a figurine/statue would be good.

I am glad you are sending this woman your thanks for her mothering. Please don't worry about the children. As for a gift. I go with a plant, postage stamps if she's old, gift certificate to restaurant if she is old, stationary with a beautiful saying on it. Let her know and it's great for the kids to know how you feel about her as well. Good luck

I agree, don't worry about the children. Hopefully, they'll appreciate someone appreciating their mother. If there are any problems, it isn't your problem.
I like Mystry's idea of a poem, flowers and dinner out. Or chocolates instead of flowers. Gourmet chocolates are especially nice, but more expensive. __________________ Maven If I had a dollar for every time I got distracted, I wish I had some ice cream. Equal Rights Are Not Special Rights |

I think it is a wonderful idea to acknowledge someone who has been important in your life. The fact that this is national teacher appreciation week just makes it better.

I think a lovely heart felt note telling her how you feel about her and what she means to you is the best gift of all.

My mother loves cards...they linger for months and months to remind her. Flowers are special to her... and I also bought her a crank radio (hey, it's hurricane season and it saves on batteries! lol)

Hi !
I'm a teacher. I would love it if any of my students gave me a Mother's Day present. How about a gift card from a bookstore. EJ |

Some of my students over the years have sent me Christmas cards, which I love. It's just nice to know your students remember you and think of you fondly, no matter how you show it. I bet she will appreciate anything you come up with!
