I'm currently using Comcast's cable modem service. They bought out AT&T awhile back (maybe four months), and we've already had two rate increases from $39.95 to $54.50. I've been checking into a DSL service, but WOW! There are a ton of them, and a bunch of different pricing. It goes from $24.95 all the way up to $199.95.
So, can anyone with a DSL service make a recommendation? Now you know why my wife doesn't take me shopping with her...sigh bp "When you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance." |

We have wireless internet, but it's a small local company. I love it. $39.95 per month but it saved us from having to get a second phone line and people can actually call us and get through. Not much help, but here I am rambling anyway.

I use DSL here in Mo.. and I only pay 29.99 a month..
I lvoe it. I can download things a lot faster, and it is more safe.. Because with my package I have spam guard, and aslo two anitviurs the one I have on my comp and the one that comes with SBCYAHOO.. i woudl check into it.. I had to sign a one year contract, but that way i am locked in for that rate and I also will never see a flux while I am online.. I have Comcast cable. It is $39.99 a month, provided you have cable. We never had cable before this, but we figured it was a good excuse.
AND... I now have unlimited access to watch SOUTHPARK! Yippee!!! I would switch if I found a cheaper package, though. It IS expensive! We are ALL going to be a-ok!

I am happy with DSL, but get an employee discount. I know that cable is faster download and slower upload. The net effect is cable appears faster in most cases. I know that my DSL was hell to get installed and working. It took about 6 weeks and I work for the same company! I did get it when it was brand new and hear it is much easier now. I would say go with the better monthly rate.

I think In might look further into SBCYAHELL, er, I meant YAHOO. They have some of the best pricing and are available in my area. Looks promising...
After this I get to tackle our over-priced cable TV service. I'm going to look into Direct TV. My nephew has a dish and gets great reception at a very reasonable price. We shall see... Thank for the feedback everyone! bp "When you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance." |

i use cable and pay bout 43 a month for it but i had dsl at my old place that ran bout 60 a month(but it included phone but not long distance call) the pricing for dsl deals with the speed you get you get and phone if you want them on the same bill, were i was at they had 3 levels of dsl speed. the best being only slightly slower than my cable is now.(is a big deal for a computer game junkie like myself). i would say if you want dsl ask them in person (so they cant **** you round). and be sure you know everthing you are paying for. phone companys are getting more greedy now that they arent the only way to get ahold of people.

BP, my psych said that recently that he also changed to Comcast, but he has been having nothing but problems with them on top of the rate increases. His professional opinion to me was to NOT get Comcast, LOL. I've never had DSL, but hope to try it someday. I am looking for a <cheap> way to get online at home without having a home phone, or cable or dsl. I think the only way is wireless, but that's expensive and could involve a contract. I really can't afford the aircard, but how tempting! My psych definitly sees getting me online at home as a benefit to therapy.

LOL, BP! Yahell is supposed to be pretty good. Ya know, I've heard great things about DirecTV. But isn't it more expensive? I'm curious what it's all about.
