Last night about 7:00 PM, my Mom, who is 73, fell and broke her left hip. She has Parkinson's, and I guess she just lost her balance and fell. Fortunately, I was there, so I was able to get help quickly, and she'll have a partial hip replacement (the ball part of the ball-and-socket joint) done tomorrow.

She is in good spirits but still in a lot of pain, and with her age and condition I worry...so if you pray, or think good thoughts or send healing hugs through the ether, we could sure use 'em! I'm spending a lot of time at the hospital, so I don't know how much I'll be able to check in, but I sure appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

TIA,
DJ

ouch! sorry to hear that... it's most common that the hip breaks and that's what makes us fall (go figure!) If her health is otherwise good, then she can certainly do well! It takes more effort though. My mom is 86 and keeps falling but breaks nothing... Bad News... Still lots of stress, eh? TC of yourself too!

DJ -

It is very fortunate that you were there, and could get her help immediately.

Hopefully, they have given your Mom some pain meds to help ease the pain, until she can have the surgery. I went through this with my Mom back in the early 1990's.

You both will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for letting us know so we can support you.

DJ, they do great things with replacements these days. I was in a thrift store recently and out of 3 over 60 people, they had 5, about to be 6 replacements between them.!. The worst part was recovering from the anesthesia. Physical therapy after surgery was down to a science and recovery good for all.
Got yas in our thoughts.

Oh, I'm really sorry that happened to your mom! My mom broke her hip a few years ago and had to have a partial replacement, too. Only, in her case, she says she didn't fall; she just got down on the floor (for some reason) and couldn't get back up. It's going to take a while for her to get back to "normal," but things will get better. She'll need to go for rehab. Thinking positive thoughts for you and her.

To all...

Thanks for all your thoughts, prayers, love and caring...I wish I could do individual replies, but you've overwhelmed me, as always! Bad News...

Mom had her surgery this afternoon (Sunday), and all went very well, I'm thrilled to say! They didn't even use a general anasthetic, so she was feeling good as soon as she got out (Versed is a wonderful thing)! She's getting morphine through an epidural at the moment, so she's in no pain and not all doped up, so things are good there.

The thing that worries me is how her Parkinson's will affect her recovery...it is what caused her fall, and it makes it very difficult for her to walk and maintain her balance. I guess we'll just have to take it a day at a time!

Thank you all again for your caring and concern...you're just wonderful!

Love,
DJ
