I don't know much except that there are adoption agencies and there are private adoptions. Through an agency, I think it takes a year to finalize the adoption. I have no clue about adopting outside the country.

What's up, Elaine??

in our area, the television station runs programs for adopting children who are slightly beyond the "baby" stage. they just aren't newborns. you might inquire about those programs and also check with an attorney. several of my friends have adopted through attorneys who found themselves with a client who was pregnant and wanted to adopt her baby out. good luck.

When my child entered foster care the first time because I was suicidal I asked the intake caseworker what happens if I can't take care of my child and my family says they will not take care of him. Would he be adopted out to any tom, ****, harry and Jane?

she told me Here in the USA there are laws that require extensive background checks to be done on prospective adoptive parents, the children up for adoption and the biological parents. Because a judge has to approve the adoption the legal system is involved so the lawyers - adoptive parents lawyers, the childrens guardian ad lidem, and the biological parents lawyers can at any point ask that medical and mental health files be supena'ed and reviewed before the adoption is finalized. Anything that raises flags such as a serious ongoing mental health disorder like, DID and Schizophrenia on the part of the adoptive parents side and the adoption does not get approved.
