Hi,

I live in central NJ and unfortunately I do not have insurance. I am dealing with a lot of issues now that Ive moved back home to be with a dying parent among other things. I was wondering if someone could reccomend affordable counseling in the central NJ/NYC area such as a clinic. I would be willing to pay about $40-$50 a visit. Thanks.

Rhapsody,
My experience with local 'church volunteers' has been dismal, I was mocked for believing in evolution by someone at my local mental health center's after hours crisis hot line! (an unconstitutional violation of the separation of church and state btw) Unfortunately the neo-con push to make us all depend on volunteer charities instead of insisting on competent and systemically effective social infrastructure has cut funding and failed to demand individual and systemic accountability.

marfin,

As for specific recommendations, although I grew up in NJ many years ago I'm afraid I can't help except to say be tenacious and call every lead in the phone book, call who they refer you to and keep at it until you wear the problems out. In the US of systemic citizenry neglect one has to fight for mental healthcare. Be tuffer than you feel and get the help you need for everyone neglected in addition to yourself. I have survived. I bet things may have come a bit further for you. You can do it! You will feel stronger for just making the calls.
