Is there a name for when someone (a woman) uses and incredible amount of toilet paper on a regular basis. By "incredible" I mean where the usual person may use, like, 4-5 squares of toilet paper, this person is using like 40. As far as I know she has no urinary tract illnesses...

This is a young woman who has moved in with a friend of mine. The friend is an environmentalist, so you can imagine her alarm.

I said, "maybe it's some kind of condition, let me try to find out" so I came here.

Thanks

Maybe the girl has menses, which often requires a lot more toilet paper. First, to wrap things properly. Second, some menstruate heavier than others & require more than 1 or 2 wipes before they're clean and dry.

If these don't fit, I guess that the girl is just a bit obsessive about using lots!

4-5 squares.... are you kidding me? lol

I don't know if you are male or female, but I would say to keep in mind that women have more... ground to cover

Also wondering why someone else's TP use is an 'issue. We are all different. Your friend might be an environmentalist, but not everyone is, or they may be but they even out their paper usage by cutting back someplace else.

The 'condition' is humanness -- separateness and personal choice.

Omg. Well t.p. is not cheap so I can see why your friend would be somewhat alarmed. Their expenses just went up ten times! So instead of just $4 per month they are looking at $40? That's not trivial. I don't have a solution; just thanks for reminding me why I live alone.

Not sure about a name for someone who uses too much toilet paper, but absolutely certain about the name for your friend who's sticking her nose where it doesn't belong ...

You're Welcome!

I've been asked to buy my own before. If you really want to know some people have a different texture to their stool and it requires more to get clean. Some people have drier stools and some people have wetter stools or greasier stools. I've actually heard someone complain because more than one sheet was used.

I call it the adhesiveness texture-more toilet paper used based on how adhesive the matter is. Also helps to minimize "stains" on underwear if adequate toilet paper used.

Well it depends on how absorbent the tissue is to begin with. But all this is rather invalidating to the person who is saying it is unusual to her. And it does sound usual from these postings to ask someone to provide their own if the usage rate is so different. I visited California in my late 20's during a water shortage, so I became desensitized about my toilet habits totally not by choice!

Well, I can tell you why I use more toilet paper than the average person. I have OCD, and not only do I wipe (some might say excessively, but not outrageously), but afterward, I sort of wash. I wrap a good amount of TP and put it under the faucet with the water turned on, then quickly try to wipe the back clean, and I usually use at least four bunches of TP to do that, sometimes more, though, because water dissolves TP fairly easily. Then, I use more TP to dry myself off. Then I do the same to the front--wet tissue, making sure to get in the folds of the area, and then I dry. I flush the toilet several times during all this, so it doesn't overflow. I buy TP in bulk. I don't care what anyone thinks, this is what I need to do.

Now, are you sorry you asked?

Well I use the grown up baby wipes if it looks like the tp isn't enough. But you'll also find me posting under "I haven't showered in a week" so maybe I'm not the best person to comment. I'm at one or the other extreme in life. Thanks maven at least you solved the puzzle!

All I know is that whenever the fecal matter hits the air oscillation device it generally creates a great big old mess ... (no pun intended) ... !!!

ps. It would probably require extra TP to clean that up too ... !!!

no there is no mental or physical health diagnostic label for using too much toilet paper. how much a person uses is pretty much one of those things that is different for everyone mental disordered or not.

that said there is a mental disorder where a persons symptom must have things a certain way or count things when ever they are doing anything including bathroom needs...its called OCD along with many other mental disorders that include ritualistic /repetitive behaviors like having to count.

mind you I am not saying the original poster or the person they are talking about is OCD or not just a general fact that some mental disorder do have the symptom of counting things.

I was looking for something like what Maven said, an OCD-like behavior.

Yes, everyone is essentially free to use as much TP as he or she wishes, but the use of TP by this person is really out of the ordinary, and the context is very important. We live in a country where the plumbing is really bad and people only put TP down the toilet if they've defecated (actually most of the population washes and doesn't use paper in that case). The paper from pee goes in a trash can.

Given the state of the pipes, putting huge amounts of paper into a toilet can be everyone's business. Their toilet has been backed up for 5 days and the city plumbing service has not arrived to blast out the pipes. So of course we would ask "what would make a young woman do such a thing!" adn we would wonder about sanity....especially since she is involved with the roommate who is Borderline but yet to share his special qualities with her...

So Thanks! End of discussion!!
