I've been having so many problems with my current doc that I am thinking about dumping her.
The first thing she did was change my antipsychotic from abilify to saphris. I had a bad reaction to that and I developed severe sensory issues but eventually that went away. Then she halved my saphris because she was concerned about my mouth movements. I ended up depressed and I stayed that way for some time. Then she decided to convince me to switch to clozaril. She said it would stop my mouth problems and on top of that it had other great things. She said the only downside was it might make me tired and I had to get a weekly blood draw. Basically how she started me off was to add a small dose of clozaril, and at the same time I was to completely stop two of my medications and reduce the dose of a third one. That basically led to me being so out of control I was screaming and crying and I was picking up objects and hitting them against things and I also pushed my husband. I was put into the psych unit for a while. Then when I came home the problems that came up was on that dose of clozaril I was sleeping most of the time and on top of that I bruise easily and the blood draws where really disfiguring my arms. She lowered the dose of clozaril and I wasn't sleeping as much, but I ended up developing a severe speech impediment. She thought that it was a sign my clozaril needed to be raised again, but what happened is I started sleeping too much again and on top of that my speech problem became worse. Then she flip-floped when I ended up in the hospital ER because I could hardly speak and now she said for me to just stop taking the clozaril and come in next week to discuss other options. The problem is that now I can't sleep at all. I looked it up and clozaril is suppose to be decreased slowly, if you take it away too fast you end up with insomnia and often your mental illness symptoms end up coming back quickly. This stuff has caused lots of pain to both me and my husband. I am seriously thinking about getting a new doctor.

good lord, did she give you any reason for switching off the abilify? was it working for you okay in the first place? sounds like switching might be a good idea!

I have to agree. It sounds like it's time to switch to another doctor. This one doesn't seem to be helping at all! You're going thru awful things with her.
I hope you can find one who understands, and who will treat you accordingly! Please let us know what happens, okay? We care! God bless and take care. Hugs, Lee ![]()

I was switched to saphris because she thought that it wouldn't give me tartive dyskinesia, but it continued while I was on the med. I was on Abilify for a while, but what happened is that I was shaking, I ended up developing my mouth movements while on it, and also they believe it caused my type 2 diabetes. It was really hard being diagnosed that at the age of 28.
