Why am I so scared to tell my parents I might be Bipolar? I mean, I sometimes will be just sitting in class and become instantly sad and depleted of energy. I feel like i can't do the work and wonder if everyone hates me. I don't know why and i would like to know but i am so scared to talk to either of them. It might be because they fight all the time. Anybody think of a good aproach?

I would start by telling them that things 'haven't been right' and then give examples. Tell them these things have gotten so bad you decided to seek professional opinion. Then tell them: " The doctor thinks I may be bipolar and wants to try some different medications to see if they help". That is a true statement but doesn't give the impact of stating a definate diagnosis. By the time it is actually brought up again, they will have seen that you are not psyco or crazy or any other outrageous thing they expected. Have a nice day! Love, l

Hi sweetie.... if you can't speack to your parents.... you need to find someone else you trust
![]() I would try whichever parent you feel more comfortable with... and if this does not go anywhere... then seek outside support. You might just be traumaticed with your parents fighting... I am assuming you are in your teens? I do have a daughter and have always encouraged open discussions.. whatever these might be, and told her that "I love you no matter what" ![]() Hugs again little sweet pea!!!!! |

[quote=CompanyOfMyself;2852260]Why am I so scared to tell my parents I might be Bipolar? It could be because of stigma or maybe you don't have that good of a relationship with them. Also the fact that they fight all the time does not help.
Have you considered going to someone else you trust first? You might just need the practice and a sympethetic (Sorry, I am not the best speller in town.) ear. Once you do talk with your parents, consentrate on your symptoms and talk about that. Good luck. Cat |
