Our very first Psych Central Conference will be held at the UMass Lowell Inn & Conference Center, located in downtown Lowell, Massachusetts.

The 2-day conference will highlight mental health, mindfulness, stress-relief, psychology and other self-help topics from a wealth of knowledgeable speakers from around the country. Workshops will be available in multiple tracks throughout both days, along with plenary sessions highlighting key topics each day. A full schedule will be available in February.

Here's the full announcement:

You can learn more about the conference here:

You can register for the conference here:

I look forward to your joining us this summer in Massachusetts!

Best,
DocJohn

I would love to attend a seminar like this. If something closer to Chicago pops up, I will be there.

We will not likely be streaming it live this first year, since it's our first conference... We'll have our hands full just doing everything else. However, if it's successful and we decide to do one next year, we will definitely look into live streaming.

Well, being in South Africa, I obviously won't be attending but I am excited at the prospect for Psych Central and wish DocJohn and all those associated the very best of luck.

Just a quick note... If the registration fee is a financial hardship for you, we do have a very limited amount of scholarships available. Check out the FAQ on the conference site for more information.

Are those that battle with mental illness welcome? The site says its for "normal people", which leads me to believe it would be more for friends and family of the mentally ill.

Thanks!

I'm sorry, but the phrase "normal people" does not appear on the conference site. "Ordinary folks" means you and every member here. (I used "ordinary folks" in the blog entry to specify that it wasn't a conference intended for professionals, sorry for the confusion.)

The conference is open to all, especially those who grapple with mental health concerns or would like to find ways to improve their lives.

Hope you can attend!
DocJohn

I will also note that we need a certain amount of registrations by March 1 to make this conference happen. If we don't hit our number (or are nowhere close to it), we'll have to cancel the conference and refund everyone's registration fee (100% of course).

Just FYI...

Oh how I wish I could come to the conference! It would be a dream come true but even if i got a scholarship, I cannot afford the flight over to America. I'd love to come and meet everyone, what a fabulous idea DocJohn! I'm sure it will be a great success!

That sounds so cool! (However I can't go) It sounds awesome to finally get to meet all the people we interact with on here. The very people who we go to for help and give advice to

I'm interested, I'll have to see. It's halfway across the country so I have my doubts about being able to attend. But it's something to think about. I've never been to MA.

The price listed only includes the conference right? Not the hotel room as well?

Do you have any interest in discussion of the (important) effects of social support -- in-person groups as well as, you guessed it!, internet social support -- in people's recovery from mental/emotional distress/illness?
