Well, of course, if the person is underage, then it can be very appropriate.

Therapists do say that people having to pay at least something for their own treatment tends to make them more motivated.

How about giving us more details? Who is this someone and what are the circumstances?

What Payne1 said. As long as the patient is contributing to his or her getting well, at the very least by trying, and as long as the one paying isn't left feeling like s/he didn't get his or her money's worth.

sure it is...

here the court system sometimes orders the perpetrators of crimes to pay for their victims therapy...

another situation ...a friend who doesnt have mental health insurance and need mental health care may ask a friend for help or another friend sometimes offers to pay for them...I have on more than one occasion paid for a friends therapy session when they needed financial help. and sometimes my friends or church pitches in when I need their help..

many parents pay for their childrens therapy even after the child is an adult...my parents helped to pay for my medical and mental health care when I could not afford it myself.

there are many different reasons why one person would pay for another persons therapy..there is nothing illegal, unethical or wrong with someone paying for someone elses health care treatments whether its medical or mental health.
Thanks for this!

Why not? Especially if the person at hand is a loved one or at least someone you care about. To me it is a question of empathy and sympathy for some one else. What if the situation was swicthed around? What if it were you who wanted/needed therapy and for what ever reason could not pay for it.
