Spoke to group this evening and will now be working 20 hours a week in a counseling center here in Central Texas. The pay is excellent and part of the package includes a car and other perks.....I can increase the hours if I choose. I will again be using phototherapy. I'll have 15 "readymade" clients and five slots for new ones.......Thank goodness for keeping my studies updated and my contacts from years ago. Good references are priceless.

This will solve more than one problem in my life right now.

thanks.....the hurdle was the phototherapy.......we had a mock session, with their psychiatrist and he started telling me his feelings about the photos and all at once they all started laughing.......and i knew it was a go then......so, then i insisted upon the car and a few other perks...... I have a New Job............ if i could get him to tell things that some of his colleagues hadn't heard.....i knew it was going to work.........

WOW congratulations!!!!!!

I have a New Job............

OK I must admit I am curious about the phototherapy.

I sometimes use photosorts (a motivational technique) with people I interview ... to get at some of their more unconscious thoughts, emotions, and perceptions around for example a brand or a product or a service. I would ask them to choose photos that represent certain aspects of whatever it is and describe how they relate.

Anything similar?

back in the 80s, i was approached by PIA to work out a new program for patients who weren't responding to "straight" talk therapy. it is similiar to what you're using.

i use specific photographs to elicit feelings that are buried or are very hard to talk about. and the photographs are mostly ones that i took and have had for a long time although i've staged a few.

i also give everyone a camera and they have to photograph how they feel about themselves. and that one is hard. and i take headshots and i teach them various techniques to change their portraits. the finished product is very telling in that you can find out how they feel about themselves........by what they do to the photograph.....

it's complicated. but really effective....especially with men. we all know how hard it is to get some of them to talk about their feelings.

i've spoken about it at various seminars around the country. it feels really good to do something that works and isn't widely used here. and to do something that i wrote.

thanks for the support. i'm really excited. i start tomorrow. i'll be given the patients who are resistant to therapy. first time out of the box when i say, "how do you feel about this photograph?"..they always say "i think, etc, etc." I have a New Job............

we may eventually work with soldiers who have returned from conflict in the Middle East. the armed forces are having trouble because their system is overloaded with the needs these men and women have now.

I am thrilled you found an exciting job.I have not heard of this therapy technique but it is so simple and obvious now that I've heard of it. I wasnt to run back east and call a family reuinion and get everybody opened up. A photo is so neutral. Everything in my family is charged, ya know?!?!?!?

I bet yer dang good at cracking hard cases. Too.

awesome news. And those perks. Good negotiating.

I have never heard of that therapy and think it sounds very interesting. Is there somewhere that I can find more information on it?

i've never been able to find much on it..except for what i've done. i found a couple of people who discussed it and that was about it.......art therapy isn't exactly like it....different mediums and applications.....phototheraphy involves a lot more talking than art therapy. less interpetation of results by counselor alone, more direct with patient. i use "costumes"....very telling.....i also took my dog, tippy, to group and he was very good with the patients. there are probably a lot of portraits of a patient and tippy floating around Oklahoma......:-) i don't know what the parent company did with it because they merged with another big company and i lost contact with corporate. just stayed in contact with the Pdoc that i worked under......
