I'm frustrated...I am needing to get a new psychiatrist for my daughter (she will be 18 in 2 months). I have called at least 8 different offices, and only 2 responded...one to tell me they aren't taking new patients and the 2nd we tried...and left knowing we would NEVER go back! (It's not good when the psychiatrist calls my daughter a problem! She is NOT a problem!!! She has things she is working on very hard to overcome, but she is NOT a problem!!!!)
So out of the other 6 I have left messages for have not returned my call. I am thankful her primary doctor is willing to write her prescriptions until I am able to get her settled into a psychiatrist...but this is ridiculous! How do I get a call back?
Other than that frustration...I am doing well!

You can try a university near you, if they have a medical school - I saw a pdoc at our u's depression center (they called it) for the past 6 years, only had 2 different student-doctors.

I've had psychiatrists not return my calls either. I was not impressed. I found one who had office staff, so at least I know she gets my messages.

I hope you can find a good one soon.

Is there a community place you can go? If you live near a busy area there may be other places you can look into-i know i go to a place called Community Concern for me and my son, about a 10 minute drive. I hope you can find someone to see!!

Why is her current Pdoc dropping her without referring her on to another Pdoc? That is irresponsible to just say she is 18, and not put any continuity of care into action. I would confront that Pdoc and tell him he needs to make sure there is someone that is a good fit for her to see. He has more resources and can make calls to see who is available. Now that kids are on their parents insurance until 22-23 years of age continuity is part of the care plan.

I got her an appointment today! It's not until October, but I FINALLY got a return call from someone!!!
Sidestepper...my daughter was actually on a grant with a certain psychiatrist, but when the grant suddenly went away unexpectedly, she wasn't allowed to see the pdoc any longer. They gave me a list, but most of the ones on the list didn't take my insurance. The ones that returned my calls weren't accepting new patients. :-/
Thank you all for your help. I mainly needed a safe place to vent!
